Hey guys, i always have fun ones for you just want some ideas
Got a 308 with 195kpa com, forged everythig with a 650DP holly so she is alittle far from standerd but not on methonol or anything
My PROBLEM is when i can get her going she is fireing 20 deg off center(and running like shi*T) (timing light on her)even tho i have set TDC and dizzy on one ( all the timing is correct) and the timing on the paper says she should be on 10 - 12 but the car refuses to run on antything besides TDC and dizzy on one and is still fireing way to early
My quesiton is does the moduel have any control over time of spark or just the strenth is draws, was the original one diffrent
any ideas on posible causes no matter how far out are apreciated
Thanks

Electric dizzy .....

Have you got your leads numbered off right?

I was tinkering with my distributor today which meant taking the cap and a few leads off then loosening the securing clamp to get at the vac advance mounting screws. When I put it all back together (oops - forgot the rotor - better put that in) I had the distributor in sort of what I thought was a close place.

Timing light connected to check it all and I was 20 or more degrees out - advanced. Car still started so I started turning the dist. to bring the timing back but went the wrong way. Nearly 40 degrees. Ran rough but kept going. Turned it the right way and it came back to where I wanted it.

I didn't have the distributor out of the car so even though I was up to 40 degrees out I could still adjust it back to 6. It was running rough, almost too lumpy so I turned my idle screws out a 1/4 of a turn. Is now sweet as. Just have to see if it starts when it's cold.

I've got a stroked 308 (355), 700dp Holley and Accel electronic distributor. You can buy an accessory for the Crane ignition modules that allow you to advance or retard the ignition from inside the car but generally modules don't do it.

Like others have said, check your leads are right.

I set mine to 6 degrees before top dead centre (well, it's now 5 btdc) at 850 revs, vac advance hose off and the port on the carby plugged.

As above, if you can get it running smooth check the balancer mark against the true TDC, other factors should not affect the timing mark location.
If it is running rough then look at other things like incorrect firing order, earthing leads or dud module.

One other that I thought of then forgot, then remembered again was a stuck vacuum advance. Check that it works. It has to be connected to a timed port (I think that's what it's called) - after you have done the timing - on the carb - not to the inlet manifold.
