Howdy,

Cosmetics, wank factor and everything else aside, do you reckon these would be considered illegal?

They are bonnet pins that dont exactly sit flush (like GT Falcon ones), but they dont exactly protrude dangerously either.

See pic and let me know what you think....

Cheers,

T

look in the body modifcations pdf file there is a section in there about bonnet pins. it basically says that if they follow the contour of the bonnet profile there alright, by the looks of your pics them ones would be fine. Should be right.

keep in mind the post will be vertical and the lock will follow the angle of the bonnet
so they might not match up

i reckon water will sit under and around them if parked wet and possibly cause rust as well.....

I need a double bonnet securing system myself so I am interested in this thread.
I don't know if its possible to fit and hide but I was thinking of a discrete leather strap type arrangement, kinda very old skool style. The emphasis is on discrete as it could look worse than a set of dogs balls hanging off the bonnet. lol

Cheers

Thanks Datto, I hadn't seen those before, the black catch on my orange bonnet might look kinda sexy :)

tony you will find putting bits like that on your car is like a sign saying my car is illegal please pick on me... I have friends in the force and that sort of thing including neons is like a magnet for them.

Thanks for the heads up Kev. I guess Im just a bit paranoid about the bonnet on the UC flying up as Ive heard this has happened to a few people. I might have a look at Hernes method of stealth security.

It used to just pop everynow and then. I adjusted the catch spring and it did it again after a while. I tightened it more and since then it seems ok. Time will tell I guess.....

How? It has a double catch system, so even if it pops, the second stage should secure it. Yella's bonnet used to like letting go, I adjusted the bonnet stops down a bit, greased the catch, and changed my closing technique to two handed approach. Never pops now.

They look like Solex Locks. I agree, use em for track cars, but on the road is a bit of overkill. You need some sort of hold down on the bonnet, even for Hillclimb/Sprints.

Generally happens to people who don't know how to shut bonnets properly. Same theory on why wheels fall off cars sometimes.

Ive seen fotos  ....so now mine has pins :D ....ive got the latch ones (so that punk kids dont nick my pins :P) ...i went though a female dog of a 'RANDOM' roadworthy check at rye (you know what the're like there!) in which i got canaried  ....but Mr Plod watched me unlatch pins and open my bonnet with no complaints so i guess in VIC it must be legal, cos this guy was lookin for any excuse to give me a new pet for the week!

If you do use them, do take your time in fitting them, and make sure the holes will be spot on before drilling anything =)

My how times change!

I was chatting to a bloke who claimed to be working at GMH, doing the XU1 development for V8 installation.

He said, quote, " You could always tell the V8 cars, they had pad locks through the bonnet pins!"
