im slowly coming up to spraying my torana. it will be a full respray with some areas (ie. rust repairs) going back to bare metal. i have done some searches on the forum and have noticed a trend for people recommending protec painting products. i tried googleing it and didnt find too much about it. where abouts can this brand be bought from?
what other brands are out there that can be recommended? what about the K&H stuff? what is that like?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Protec is popular with home enthusiasts because of its price and availability, But it's foundation is in Industrial Coatings primarily before Automotive use. That said plenty of Shops and guys use it with great success.
Workshops painting and colour matching cars have different needs than the enthusiast at home.
I would recommend trying to buy the best brand paint you can afford. People will say a good painter can make anything look good. Good painters will also tell you that a premium paint brand will be better to apply and have better properties as well.
My personal choices would be;
2K = Glasurit (its the system im used to), Spies Hecker, PPG
Acrylic = Spartan
K&H make really nice body fillers, I really like the Toucan 2K filler. They have released a new filler called Mercury but I'm yet to try it out. I'm pretty sure that K&H don't have their own paint system (ie. Colours/Tinters) but sell the associated sundries.
It will come down to personal preference and what your willing to spend as the prices for paints vary greatly. Some can justify the expense, others can't

I would spend a bit more and get a better brand like Spartan, or Protec. I get my Protec from Pakenham Paints, but that is a little bit far for you (He does sell his paint over eBay to i think and can post it to ya...)
Spend your money on a good Clear too. The clear will give you the really good gloss!

ok. had a feeling that may be the case. will steer clear of it then.No deal on the Motospray.... IMO its a cheap brand (You can get motospray at supercheap!)
ls2lxhatch - no this isnt just a quick weekend spray job to sell the car, but at the same time it wont be a bare metal respray... so somewhere in between! i will try and do some homework on both Spartan and Protec. i take it both make a primer/spray putty?

The crash shop who fixed it when a silly woman ran in to me had no issue matching paint 4 years after the respray.

And 4L or Protec Acyrlic Super Clear for $80...
I'm not sure of the prices on other brands. But they are the ones i know...
I have only ever heard good things about, Spartan, Glasurit and PPG, So they much be great as well! Haven't personally tried them though..... Yet..
