I'm there for sure. You'll also need a Wakefield license though, add $50.00 if you don't already have one.

Here is a description of the day I'm planning for my XU1.

Two laps, brakes smoking, better give them a rest.
Wait 1/2 hour.

Two laps, brakes smoking, better give them a rest.
Impatient. Wait 10 minutes.

Two laps, brakes smoking, run off into infield.
Wait 1 hour. Adjust underwear.

One lap, no brakes, better go home.

I would love to take my car to a track day! But Wakefield is a bit far away for me to trek! I would consider going to Winton though

I'd be in if it was at Winton.

Wakefield is probably the only one I might attend.

Doesn't a CAMS-affiliated association have to host it? Like a club with a liscence or something?

I've always thought it would be nice to get a group to go to a Fun-Day at Winton but on the occasions I've been, we have only had 2 or 3 cars there which doesn't really make it a Torana event - just like going with a couple of mates. I'm sure we could organize something with a club that is also going or something? There was that Bucks Party at Winton that was planned for a while ago for example. Not sure if that went ahead but I don't think people needed a CAMS liscence for that.

when you pays your money at Wakefield it includes a basic CAMS licence I believe which lasts 12 months.

I would love to drive the track at Winton it looks challenging but from here for a fun day its just too far and thus would end up costly.

Nearest thing to track time iv'e done is the 2 laps at Sandown for Brocky's send off & a bunch of runs at Heathcote.
So i would be interested to have a go at some more serious laps of a race circuit.

I have done several fun days at Winton, at $25 a shot and throughly enjoyed it.

It might be easier to try and get people to a Winton Fun day, rather than book a track out. It will be cheaper too...

Steve, what does the $25 cover?

Obviously not the fuel.

Some kind of health insurance? (I mean obviously the car itself isn't insured if it's on a race track). Keeping the ambos on the venue or something and just the costs of all the people working there? That's just what they charge for each driver/car, another $10 or something for a passenger (there are strictly passenger and non-passenger sessions)

This is getting off topic I know but its money related and partly addresses your statement John.

Gary (Southern Branch) is planning another Tassie tour for October? 2009 I will be saving for that and that will affect what I spend between now and then. It's one to watch out for but its not exactly cheap. Gary has made the accommodation deals and has some good prices for us. Gary has yet to release the full details as far as I know.

Anyway I would like to drive Winton so we will see what we can manage.

Cheers
Herne

Its a Wakefield Park specific 'Clubcomp Licence', nothing to do with CAMS. I have one from some track days I've done there. $50.00 for 12 months.

FWIK there are two NSW based Torana/XU1 clubs already planning a day out there in May.

Obviously not the fuel.

The $25 is your entry fee to get on the track.

Check out this thread http://www.gmh-toran...?showtopic=9673

It is pinned in the Circuit racing section and contains information about Winton Practise days and Fun days.

Maybe if we get enough people we could go to a practise day?

I wonder if anyone that knows my car could tell me if it would be worth it to take to a track day? It's something i want to do.. and the car's not exactly a drag car, but nor is it a streeter either.. and it's sorta probably farthest from a track specific car.

Would it be worth it? Would i be likely to seer it into a fence or something stupid considering that i LIKE driving hard?
Would i look like a tool taking it easy if the brakes etc decide to give up the ghost?

It's something i'd be interested in but i dont really know the risks!

And i'd prefer something like wakefield i think... i couldnt make victoria and i think eastern creek would be a bit exxy! But yeah i'm interested!

Would want to get some serious tyres for the front end Tiny. And yours is auto so you will need to use your brakes even more; welcome brake fade. Doesn't mean you couldn't do it, but I would possibly suggest something like a Motorkhana etc first maybe?

Give it a go Tiny, Don't turn up with front runners on, other than that, I wouldn't do much, Don't worry about the brakes etc, they'll be fine, just back off and brake a bit earlier than the fast guys, you'll be fine.
I'm sure by now you are capable of not driving (too far) beyond your ability!
