Had a HQ, warm yella terra head, 350 holley 186, 4 speed and 3.36 diff with 14 " wheels.
Could go 400-450km on a tank on the highway.

Bought an LX hatch, stock 202, trumatic and 2.78 bango (was an old man's car) Could go 280-300km on a tank on the highway.

Solution, swap motor and trans over.
Could go 500-550km on a tank on the highway in the torana.

Yes the tank size was different but the Torana is a little lighter and has less wind resistance at 140Km/h cruise speed (nearly 20 years ago).

Summary, I think (only my opinion ok) if you ask that bit extra the 202 drinks just like a diesel. Fuel consumption goes up drastically the harder you push it. Working over the engine gives you better power results considering the fuel you will be pouring down it's throat.

I think most would agree, if you was starting from scratch and and you had the option. Go the 253, at least it will sound great!!! (Thinking P plater here)

I would prefer a 253 over a 202 any day. But since all I have is an incomplete 253 and several complete 202's, I know which one I'll be using for now.

yeah chop at first i thought so too, that a 465 is miles too big, but then my mate bought a EH wagon with a worked 179 with the 465 holley, told him its miles too big and basically laughed at him, took me for a drive and it went very well with it on there.... mostly performance wise ( dont and never cared bout economy), + god love ebay, i pick up the 465 holley & 4 barrel manifold for $132.....bargain,

i know what im doing next sunday....once its in then thats it for the 202. then im saving up the pennys for something with 2 more cylinders....

cheers

I have to agree with a few of the above comments, a standard 202 dont go hard, is sluggish and gives lousy fuel economy. Work em over, match the tranny and diff and you get a lively car that you dont have to push so hard and therefor a saving on fuel.

Cheers
