We have tried 3 times to make the rust repair panel for the C pillar on the LX hatch but unfortunately we have failed , without spending a lot more money that I am doubtful we will recoup we will not be able to proceed . So for those who have been waiting for this product I am sorry it will not be made in the foreseeable future

That's a shame Les. It's probably the one area that will turn a potentially rebuildable hatch into a basket case without the availability of a rust replacement section.

It is a complex shape though. Have you thought about building a rust replacement panel that covers above and below the seam, with a groove in the panel to simulate the seam? That might be a bit simpler to make.

- dont mean to hijack thread, but what was that Chop?

Do you have a 1/4 panel? I'm after a passenger side LX panel.
What are they worth? Seen a few on Ebay, but drivers side.

-------------

Back to this thread.

Les, are the 1/4 panels floating about NOS or are they Rare Spares
new parts? if so couldnt you just do the pillar part off the same tool?

Also, RODOMO, are you serious about the chicken wire? It sounds
like a good idea, like putting reo in concrete.

Hmmm, thinking cap is on.

I'm considering the trip around Christmas. If there were a few people interested in me transporting goods all or part of the way there or back, it would definitely be on.

Passenger side LX? I shall check. Fairly sure there's a couple of drivers side, but not 100% about passenger side.

The 1/4 panels are NOS but they do not come with the outer "c"pillar only the inner part

Nah... they're too lazy.

Strut chappy is getting back to me tomorrow.

How many threads have I mixed here??**##!

That is dissapointing Les, just wondering how much is too expensive ?? I know I would part with a reasonable amount for a decent C pillar repair kit. Im sure there wouldnt be many Hatches out there without this dreaded rust in the C pillar. Sure you can bog it, but long term , it has to be something like this kit. Les could you reconsider at all ? how about a poll on these forums regarding price, and demand before you shelf it , anyhow I think Rares are doing the right thing by us old car enthusiasts, and keep up the good work!!!!

^^^ aggreed, i would be willing two buy a couple of sets of repair kits.

We should have a poll to see just how many people are interested and what prices would be

Does any one have a donor hatch with rusted pillars L&R that they could cut out below the overlap at the bottom and through the very top that they can mail to me? I will pay postage.

Make that 2 sets!
GML-31 has offered a set, thank you.
I would use his to make the patterns but would need another set to chop out the rust sections to check fit.
