Hey Guys,

Read and drool!!!!

http://www.bimf.com.au/

Finally a motoring event that doesn't cost two arms and three legs. Should be massive. Suppose to be Australia's equivalent to the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Looks good, although don't find the website that informative, maybe I's just too tired ATM, damn puters.

Enjoy.

I believe so, although I think they might just be taking advantage of this larger event to run theirs. Looks like it's going to be massive, has the backing of the Bathurst City Council.

From memory the XU-1s are going to be based at the showground again, and just drive up for the parade laps. I don't have any details on the XU1 event.

Wholey bat clashes! Oh well, see what happens.

Just to put another perspective on this, Muscle Car Events had paid a deposit to hold the circuit back in JUNE 2004 and have now been told they cannot use it during that time, Easter 2006.

If that is the case, then the GTR & XU-1 Nationals were first to put the PLACE & the DATE for their event as Mount Panorama, Bathurst.

I believe they are trying to negotiate with the Bathurst Council and this "International" event to get some time on the Mountain that as previously stated they had put a deposit on to hold the circuit.

Of course there is always two sides to a story and this is just a bit of info on the other side.

Accommodation is at a premium in Bathurst during Easter and although I would like reasonable comfort, I've settled for the tent again at a caravan park.

Regards....................................Barry.

If this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, I wonder if there is a discount for the second time?

G'day smiley

Would be glad to if I know what Park you are staying in. pm me if you like.

I couldn't afford a cabin although they did have a "settlers" cabin available when I called the Park.

Still though, I camped in a tent when I was up there for Torana the Great in 2004 and enjoyed the company of other Torana enthusiasts.

Regards......................Barry.

At $700 to enter the XU-1 in the races... I think I'll walk thank you!
Makes me wonder who is the star of the show...
The cars, or the promoters bank account!

Cheers Greg..

Greg, you need to negotiate!!, and look at what you get over the 4 days for the $700,If they want you, they will cut some slack. Classis Adelaide is $5500...this is cheap...I am still waiting for a reply and what is involved but it hints at the Biante guys running etc so the old Bathurst Easter thing might be back. If WPS is freighting it u can bet it will get TV coverage as well as much more. I have sent the expression of interest so we will see what they come back with but it is seriously interesting to me compared to Classic Adelaide etc at their prices for 5 days.I went to Goodwood when I was in the UK with Dunlop in 79, if this thing is anything like that, all other events will pale in comparison. Expect to see the 66 World GP winning Brabham as well as all the 'hidden' treasures not only here but from NZ aswell and there are HEAPS of stuff you have no idea exist in this part of the world. NZ has more classis racing cars than any country in the world.(remember that Bruce McLaren and Danny Humle were kiwis, just look at the cars that they raced in their time)
One thing is for sure unfortunately, it will crush the Torana GTR XU1 Nationals if it comes off. That will be a side show.

Ditto that Rory. If you are racing, that's pretty standard race entry fees. Forget the rally's, they are way overpriced, can usually get three race meets for the price of one rally entry.

If you are just interested in the parade laps etc. It is just the $50 entry fee, and the $50 camping fee. They don't come much cheaper than that.

I hope the event is as good as Goodwood. They've got a bit to live up to if they wan't to achieve that level.

Just got an email from em, it's even cheaper for entrants:-

Your car clubs attendance at the BIMF will entitle your members to a discount on campground sites and tickets to the event, with reduced rates of $20 and $40 respectively for a pre-purchased four (4) day pass.

Camping for children under 12 is $10 per child and admission to the circuit is free when accompanied by a paying adult.

Dear Car Clubs

Re: 2006 Bathurst International Motor Festival

You may be aware that April 2006 will see the introduction of the Bathurst International Motor Festival.  The festival will be a combination of all categories of motor sport and incorporate a festival type atmosphere at the world famous Mount Panorama circuit.

Organisers anticipate large crowds to gather at the home of motor sport for this inaugural event, therefore hoping to make it another annual pilgrimage on the motor sport calendar.  Your clubs involvement would help to ensure that the Bathurst International Motor Festival is a great success and also be an opportunity to showcase your clubs collection of prestigious motor cars.

There will be the opportunity for your club to display vehicles in the Pit Paddock area over the weekend, and also participate in a coveted Parade Lap for your club around the Mount Panorama circuit.

If your club would like to take up this unique opportunity to be part of the Bathurst International Motor Festival or for further information please contact Danielle Keech on 02 6333 6158 or via email [email protected].

We look forward to your involvement in what will be a spectacular Event at the home of Australian Motor Sport.

Yours faithfully

James OBrien

Can assure you that $700 is far from a "standard entry fee" Most state series rounds are around the $350 mark. Even a Biante round is only $500, and the promoter pays tow monies! As this event carries not championship points I rekon $700 is a bit steep!
Think.... what is going to be one of the major draw cards at this event??? The race cars right. Well all I'm saying is that as this is a NON-CHAMPIONSHIP event, then if the promoter wants a full grid of "good" cars then he had better open up his purse!
Remember that added to the $700 entry fee are all the expenses in running a historic touring car. Bathurst is hard on tyres and brakes, you will spend $1500 here alone.Add to that transport, accomodation for 4 and consumables and you won't get any change from $3500 for the weekend, this is provided you don't bang an engine or knock a corner off the car.
Just remember, for a racer, Bathurst is not a liesurely but brisk squirt over a mountain.....It is a calculated RISK!
I maybee there... I may not...

Cheers Greg.. NSW 26Nc

True that Greg. Hard bit for me is gonna be Easter! Bathurst 1000 is usually on the Wedding Anniversary, being away for Easter could mean.......dog house.
