Starfire and blue/black 6 rods are the same. Same part number even - 9947191. Not sure who started this myth that they are different, but it's a new one to me? Same person who started all the myths about HP blocks (179 and 308) - LOL

I've pulled two black motors apart and they had the starfire rods, same as the pic in the other thread. Not sure on the blue motors as I haven't pulled the one I have here apart yet.

Yes. If for some reason it doesn't have a 202 spec cam just check rod bolt clearance to the cam before sealing up.

what are starefire rods? 7/16 th rod bolts compared to 3/8 " on red motors. unfortunately the myths live forever. a mate told me that 186s stands for steel crank, but i still dont know it. also i got laughed at the first time i said alloy rods

i used rods from a standard 3.3 efi, the car i pulled them from was a stock VK calais, they look identical to the rods labelled "starfire" in the starfire thread.

186S doesn't mean "steel" crank, however all HK-HG 186S engine had forged steel cranks. Same as 2600S, 186 XU-1 and all red motors prior to mid 1967.
