Just been asked to ID an SS torrie. The VIN supplied ends in BOA, not an X. Anybody ever seen this, or has the dude just got the VIN wrong?

Did GMP&A shells have that on the VIN? That's the only thing I can think of.

Hi Pat,
My guess is that he has supplied the chassis number and the B is a 3.

Should still end in an X though for LX, not an A.

Chassis number on a hatch usually ends in M for Melbourne. From memory some of the early ones had A for Adelaide.
BTW VIN starts 8D77

Certainly an odd one, and it sure isn't a GMP&A. Lets not forget a GMP&A is a spare part, no VIN. I'd say this VIN is miss quoted, ask for the rest of the numbers, looks like a 253 SS anyway.

Thanks Michael, that's what I thought. Would a GMP&A need a VIN if it were to ever be road registered, or do they just revert to using the chassis number?

Certainly a weird one.

some GMP&A race cars were made into road cars and tags were aquired from the factory , but if you say bought a GMP&A shell to replace your written off car, then you used your tags, same as if it happened today

Just looking at that VIN again and the year code is impossible for a production model. The code E is used. This is 1975. There first of the SS hatches were September 1975 and have a 1976 year code F since all years start September.
Is it made of steel or clay? :D
