Well last Sunday was the opening of the new Gippsland Car Club Hillclimb track. This replaces the old Gippsland Park track which is about to be swallowed up by the open cut mine. When the Power Company said we want to dig up your land, the Club President said something along the lines of 'Only if you build us a new track'. He has gone from being a top bloke to an absolute legend in my book. He has worked tirelessly on this project and now we have this fantastic new venue. it is in some hills known as 'The Haunted Hills' between Moe and Morwell which dates back to the horse and cart days, apparently the horses would become spooked as they travelled through this area and so it became known as the Haunted Hills. Anyway, I believe the new track is officially known as Gippsland Park at Haunted Hills.
It is longer than the old track, my best time at the old track was 38 secs, on Sunday my best was 1.03 with a couple more seconds left in the driver when he remembers which way all the damn corners go. It a ripper track, the old track had much tighter corners which didn't suit my car at all, this new track has slightly less tight corners, is steeper and has a start line which almost straight away goes downhill. The old track had an uphill startline and I would spend the first 5 seconds or so trying to get traction, now I have traction almost straight away.
I have put some in-car footage on you-tube and will put a link here when it finishes uploading. Watch for the sideways action when I get off the throttle going down the steep part of the track......

Bit of Amaroo in there..Nice...I would be sideways everywhere but it would be a hoot in a Formula 2 or similiar open wheeler...

Good to see somebody thinking with their noodle, rather than having a whinge.

Yes that lap I didn't get out of 2nd but had some wheelspin coming onto the straight and it was screaming at the end, so really I need to snatch 3rd briefly,
Yes an open wheeler is the car to have at a Hillclimb,
And Yes it is in Victoria.

We had our club presentation night last friday. I went along to collect a trophy for winning my class. I didn't expect to be named GCC Most Improved Driver 2008 ! I guess they must have thought I was fairly ordinary at the start of the year. I started the year coming about 5th/6th in class and at the end of the year i won (my class) the last 2 Hillclimbs so there was some improvement but it was still a major surprise.
I thought awards like that went to young blokes !!
