I have this steeringwheel.
Posted Image
It was on a mates VL commy. The car got defected because of it. I swapped my mate a stock VL steeringwheel for this one thinking i would put it on the torry.
Just because it was illegal on the VL does that mean it will be illegal on a torry? I think the reason that it was wrong for the VL was that it was too small. And toranas have smaller steeringwheels than VL stock standard.

defected over a steering wheel..... thats new.

here in NSW its fine to swap to a smaller aftermarket wheel aslong as your car is built/complied pre 1995.

Any date after that and there are ADRs that make it way too hard to swap to an aftermarket steerer.

would be 100% ok in NSW, so dont see why not in SA

In short, no
Due to it being non standard, and having exposed steel with no crach pad it is not legal in SA.
Also, I think you will find that a VL wheel is smaller than a Torana, due to the Torry having no power steering.
You can risk it, but after being done for one of these myself, it is just easier to leave the grandpa wheel on, and not have to go over the pits at Regency.

What i've found is its ok to have one as long as you have the correct horn button fitted.. so there is no sharp edges or anything poking out that could affect your safety. And as others have said.. on a pre-1995 vehicle it should be fine.. a forum member UNVSM8 lives in Adelaide S.A and has an aftermarket sports steering wheel.. so Im guessing it is legal IF his car is registered etc?

Just because it is on a registered car, doesn't make it legal or undefectable...

Is the grip loose anywhere? (that usually what they get defected for)

The steering wheel doesn't comply when fitted to any vehicle that needs to comply with ADR's for a collapsible steering column, basicalyy anything from 1971 onwards.

This is an extract from page 20 of the NCOP11 Section LS Suspension and steering document. Posted Image

A complying boss kit must also be fitted.

I do not know if SA have adopted the NCOP.

Autotechnica are listed on the QLD transport website as complying with ADR 10. I would expect that SA have a similar list.
QLD Transport

Queensland Transport will accept products with the following brand names:
Momo, Australi, ET, SAAS, Autotechnica, Formuling and OBA.
AUTOTECNICA
4 spoke wheel & VN Boss P/No: 22 - 218 & 510 CA (test certificate supplied)
4 spoke wheel & EA Boss P/No: 22 - 218 & 143 C (test certificate supplied)
3 spoke wheel & VN Boss P/No: 22 - 971 & 510 CA (test certificate supplied)
3 spoke wheel & EA Boss P/No: 22 - 971 & 143C (test certificate supplied)
A list of replacement steering wheel and boss kits supplied by Autotechnica that are deemed
acceptable are available from the Vehicle Safety and Access Section on telephone (07) 3253
4770. This list also makes reference to SAAS boss kit assemblies that are also deemed
acceptable.

They may well be on that list, but i will put money down that 202LX does not have a VN Commodore or EA Palcon boss kit fitted to his wheel.
and like Tim said, just cause its fitted doesnt make it legal, remember we dont go over the pits until after we are defected in SA.
I also had a wheel similar to this UNTIL I GOT CAUGHT!

Go to autopro, they'll tell you what you need to know.

PS- it wasnt frosty who laid the defect?
