I'd like to know how many km's does a clutch last?

I have a Supra 5 speed behind the 308 and have done 35 000 kms with conservative driving, a mechanic who is not familiar with the Torana LX hydraulic set up says he thinks it needs replacing.

Does 35 000 kms seem right?

Too me that doesn't sound right with conservative driving, That would mean that your tyres should last longer than your clutch does!!! Go figure. I think that you should get someone who knows more about the setup to have a look at it.

What is it actually doing? Is it slipping at a speed when you accelerate, when you take off, or grabbing, is it hard to change gears?

I dont know a lot about the setup really as i haven't played with them much, Although i guess that it works on the same priciples as any other hydralic clutch. So you could check the basic things first if you havent already, like bleeding the line to check there is no air in it, and adjust the clutch rod.

Cheers

Why does everyone get supra five speeds?

I got mine because it is stronger than the M21 I had previously, it is much much smoother in the gear shifting and much quieter. The M21 I had previously was incredibly noisy while driving.

Also, it has a 5th gear - I do a bit of highway driving.

The alloy Supra box is stronger than the Celica 5speed box and that is why I chose it instead.

While I think it's pretty unlikely, my old a9x had to get the clutch changed twice in the 3 or so years I had it. The reason was that it couldn't be adjusted properly - my clutch pedal was slightly bent - not allowing full movement. It did used to slip a bit before I got all that fixed....
