Just had a call from Todd martin advising that the GTR XU-1 Nationals planned over the Easter weekend have been cancelled. I'm still going and will now try and enter my car in the other event that has just popped up on the horizon. Disappointed but have already booked and paid for accomodation so life will go on . :furious:

Yes your right a lot of people stand to loose out if they can't get their deposits back for accomodation. Have you looked at the Bathurst international motor fest which has just appeared??? As I said, I'm still going and will now attend this event instead. I'm making enquiries re entering my car at the moment.

Also a shame being announced after the Australian Factory Performance Car Nationals have been on. I think there may have been some more XU-1s for that event if people knew they didn't have the Easter event.
Maybe it's a lesson on going to events run by certain people, and not to commit to those run by others....

Cheers
Phil

There were reasons given to me why they GTR & XU-1 Nationals were cancelled but as this is a private matter between the parties concerned and so that it doesn't degrade into a public slanging match, all I can say is that the promoter is also substantially out of pocket as well as having put quite a few hours of work into it.

Perhaps now that the Australian Muscle Car and other cars of renown, are fast becoming such a valuable promotional commodity, it is too tempting for some to jump on the bandwagon and make the big bucks?

No doubt every one will have an opinion on this but before you engage the mouth, please make sure you put brain into gear.

Yes, I have done this myself and ended up with egg on face.
Not a very good look I can assure you.
Maybe it is age that has mellowed me some-what

Regards...............................Barry.

Barry,

Not sure from your email what the reasons for the cancellation are exactly but there seems to have been a rapid increase in the number of muscle car type events being promoted at present. No doubt this will settle down and only the well run and intentioned events will survive long term.

The histories at Phillip Is 3 weeks back were an example of an extremely well run event at a great venue, tose are the type of quality events that will thrive and grow.

Cheers Simon

Maybe if Todd has some T-shirts already printed for this event he can give them to those who are still waiting for T-shirts from the last event....just a thought...

Having the "Goodwood" type event up against you at the same venue on the same weekend is like trying to compare the Gympie Motorkhana to Speed On Tweed...it would never work. As Barry says I am sure there are reasons and shit happens. To all the guys that have stuff booked...go anyway...if it like Goodwood you will have a better weekend anyway...IF.. it is like Goodwood. I have sent 2 emails enquiring and have had no reply yet so it might be an empty weekend allround anyway. By the way..for all the Qlders....Kilcoy Kanter has been confirmed...sort of like a stage of the Targa Tasmania over 8 klms. I will post more as I get the info.

I could not decide whether to go or not because I thought the $180 was rather excessive considering I was supplying part of the entertainment.
Sort of seemed arse about to me...lol..

Sorry for all those caught out. Perhaps the HB/LC/LJ/TA Torana Nationals, may have may have made it over the line. Lets face it, it is a bloody big country and GTR XU1s are getting thin on the ground. The HB/LC/LJ/TA Torana Nationals would only be open to genuine HB/LC/LJ/TA Toranas of course! No bloody LH/LX/UC conversions. Lets promote the preservation and enjoyment of all Toranas! Just my opinion :D

Yes l agree, $180 seems way excessive when without you guys, there is no show. Wonder what the public pay for admission, a lot less than you

I got a letter for the BIMF:-

6 February 2006

Dear Car Clubs

Re: 2006 Bathurst International Motor Festival

You may be aware that April 2006 will see the introduction of the Bathurst International Motor Festival. The festival will be a combination of all categories of motor sport and incorporate a festival type atmosphere at the world famous Mount Panorama circuit.

Organisers anticipate large crowds to gather at the home of motor sport for this inaugural event, therefore hoping to make it another annual pilgrimage on the motor sport calendar. Your clubs involvement would help to ensure that the Bathurst International Motor Festival is a great success and also be an opportunity to showcase your clubs collection of prestigious motor cars.

There will be the opportunity for your club to display vehicles in the Pit Paddock area over the weekend, and also participate in a coveted Parade Lap for your club around the Mount Panorama circuit.

Your car clubs attendance at the BIMF will entitle your members to a discount on campground sites and tickets to the event, with reduced rates of $20 and $40 respectively for a pre-purchased four (4) day pass.

Camping for children under 12 is $10 per child and admission to the circuit is free when accompanied by a paying adult.

If your club would like to take up this unique opportunity to be part of the Bathurst International Motor Festival or for further information please contact Danielle Keech on 02 6333 6158 or via email [email protected].

We look forward to your involvement in what will be a spectacular Event at the home of Australian Motor Sport.

Yours faithfully

James OBrien
EVENT DIRECTOR

I'm not surprised that much by the news. I'm sick of paying a bucket load keeping my car looking good, then paying somebody a bucket load for it to sit in the sun so they can make a living. No more car shows for me over $70, cept the track, I get my value for money at them suckers.

This one is gonna cost $20 entry over four days, and $20 for camping. The way it should be ---> reasonable.
