Hi Trav.

You didn't mention 6 or V8, but in both cases they're just the standard black assemblies applicable to that model, the SL/R did not differ.

The V8s are all the same in outside appearance (the base is different for 2 or 4 barrel). The early LX (up to to 6/76) is the same as all LH, HJ & late HQ 6 cyls. The LX 6 cyl with ADR27A is the same as HX,HZ, UC & VB 6 cyls.

PM me if you need a photo of the Pre-ADR27A 6cyl air filter (same as HQ etc)

I don't have a photo of the later one that my car should be wearing. They're ugly though.

G'day All,
I have an original Feb 1976 LX SLR 5000 & need to put the correct air cleaner on it. As far as i know the pre pollution - up to 6/76 LX's had the same air cleaner as the LH's in that they didn't have the vacuum setup on the air cleaner snout as the later LX's had & they also didn't have any factory decals on the air cleaner lid unlike the previous model - the LH SLR 5000.
Help me out if I'm wrong as I want to get it right the first time.
Thanks.

That's it except the part on the aircleaner snout. Did pre pollution LX's have this & what does this piece do exactly? I've seen LH's without this - why does your pic have this Heath? I'm curious as to what it did.

what it did and still does in some cases is allow a cold engine to grab some warm air,, once up to a determined temp the gate shuts and its cool air through the nose as usual. :spit:

Just at a guess to the above, if the v8 did have a different filter for aircon, it would have been made smaller so it didnt foul the aircon box, Reda9x would know the answer to that. If you arent putting factory air in cant see there'd be a prob keeping your existing filter.

I think I have seen a LX SL/R 5000 in one of the other topics, with a different air filter, I think it was origanal to, plus, theres another topic about LX pollution, I was reading it before, it said something like if your LX was produced before 1st july you could have less protective parts, so if yours isnt you couldnt run an aftermarket air filter, I dont think theres other ways round it, unless you get tags saying differently, but then you run the risk of that car being stolen, so hardchoice.

the only difference for a factory air aircleaner is the location of the engine breather port to aircleaner on the front, rather than on the back like on a stock 308. Factory air V8's had tappet covers that had both holes at the front when fitted breather and the PCV.
