anyone running their cars on E85? im seriously considering it. according to St Machine mag its much higher octane, good for up to 13:1 comp, real good for forced induction. cools the intake charge. some people call it street legal methanol which is pretty right as its an alcohol fuel. use more of it though as petrol air fuel ratio is about 14:1 whereas E85 is 9:1. just need to have a fuel system up to it. which mine is :)

I read somewhere that Vodaphone are doing it but you need to use 30% more fuel or something?..The quantity is higher for the same result...thats for sure.

^^ True that with an octane rating of 105-129 (approx). More fuel is needed as rory has stated and I have from a very reliable source that ethanol, which is the same alcohol as found in drinks, is very dry on the system so be aware on old fuel lines, carby's etc.

i'm building my new engine to run on it.over 13:1 comp ;) fuel bowser is around the corner from work at $1.10 a litre but yes your sposed to use 30% more of it.

some of the turbo guys have found that you can run the same boost on it as they do on c16.WOW

If I can find a servo close enough to home I'll set my car up on E85,from what I've read it's not that much that needs changing, then I can run 12:1-12:5 comp instead of around 11:5.

moot:sean aka allports gave me a lecture lol that you can run methanol legally on the street, don't think you can get proof out of epa/rta(i'm sure he tried) but from what he said though it fits within their rules.

that's what i thought...methanol burns with a clear (invisible) flame and i thought that was why it was illegal for street use......

Well I spoke to an RTA inspector at the Wagga RTA inspection station who advised me it was Ok to use methanol on the road but illegal to use avgas. These are the guys who pull you over the pits if your unlucky enough, so im sticking with that until advised otherwise.

It is more pragmatic than that. Ethanol is a solvent and attacks the soft alloys in your fuel system (for us the carby, inlet manifolds and fuel pump housings). I checked out the E85 Falcon when it was here. Link: http://www.renewable...com.au/e85.html.

It was done by Manildra ???, and basically and from memory all the soft alloy components that the fuel system came into contact with were replaced.

one inspectors words arent really proof, and if i'm gonna spend the money, you sort of want something to back it up :)
