G'day

I just installed a HEI dizzy out of a blue commodore engine. Now when you trying to accelerate hard the engine just bogs down and starts pinging or something.
Before the new dizzy it revved out just fine.
I figured it was most likey timing, but I adjusted it as much as I could and it wouldn't change, although I don't have a timing light.
It is a standard red 202 btw.

Also, what spark plugs should I use? Is it ok to just use the standard ones or can I put plugs for a blue commodore engine?

Cheers

A couple of things:
Have you got the corect coil for HEI?
Did you change the wiring to the coil to 12V as points wiring is resisted down to 9V?
You will have to change the plugs, the gap is also bigger.
You will need a timing light to accuratly adjust the timing.
Are the leads second hand? As they could be breaking down.

No I have not given it 12v yet, I thought that could be the problem.
And I have plugs for a blue 202, they are just longer and I thought this could be a problem?
And I got new leads, rotor and cap.

EDIT: The coil is the one that came with the dizzy, so I would assume that it is correct.

You need to turn the dissy clockwise...just a bit...as a stop gap until you get a light. Just check if the plugs you have bought will fit...you may just have to leave you old ones in and open the gap up...but there is little point until you give the coil 12 Volts.

Ok so I ran a new wire from where the thick pink wire connects on the back of the fuse panel to the + terminal on the coil. Now when the car is running the battery light on the instrument panel is constantly illuminated. I measured the voltage from the + coil to ground and it measures around 12v.
I would think I have replaced the wrong wire *facepalm* but I read the guide in the wiki section and it said I needed to replace the thick pink wire on my fuse panel with a wire that goes straight to the + coil terminal, and that is what I did.
Any clues as to what I have done wrong?

Also if I do something like put the headlights on high beam the engines RPM goes down slightly and the battery light gets brighter. The battery light also gets brighter the higher the engine is revving.

Put it back the way it was and see if the fault is still there.

I am running plugs that are gapped at 1.5mm at the moment. I re did the wiring and with a bit of help from devils advocate it's all good now, I have 14v at the coil. Running great! Big improvement over my old worn points dizzy. :spoton:
Thanks for the replies :spoton:
