Hey all, well i just fitted my 9" diff and my 295/50 15" Wheels and they fit fine and dont scrub anywhere :D but i was wondering how much suspension travel does the average Torana have? or whats a good amount to have? because at the moment the car can only go down around 30-40mm before the tyre hits the guards... and im wondering if this is enough or if i should get the guards cut out more???

Thanks
-Clint

Take it for a drive and drive the car as you would normally drive your torana, if that means doing 150kph over a speed bump then do so, if it fouls fix it, if you normally slow down to a sensible speed over bumps and it doesnt hit without having to go over the bump on a 45 degree angle with half your window down whilst your pumping some Mariah Carey thru your Kenwood 6x9's, then your fine :)

Get out there, drive that sucker and start enjoying it, your worse then me, worrying about every little fart, what if ........

It is preferable to have the bump stops hit BEFORE the tyres contact the guards!!! :tease:
This little tip was brought to you in the interests of NOT SCRATCHING THE PAINT ON YOUR ROOF!!!!! :spoton:

Cheers Greg..

howabout i take the springs out so the car rides on the bump stops, and then work out the wheels and tyres to fit then??? no dramas and nice low ride height....also not driving under trees with low hanging branches is also in the interests of not scratching the paint on ya roof....

yes i'm tired (got up at 6am, painted some bits for my bike then spent 12 hours working on a mates sterio install) and i'm going to bed now.....

I'm wondering about the same thing with my lx, same size tyres. I am taking it back to get more cut out of my guards, because at the high I want it I've only got 3mm of travel. I can take over another inch out of them. I wish they'd cut them back to the bolt holes when they did them, but at the time I only had 265/50/14s so there was plenty of room.

The problem with the bumpstops on a flared torana is when your tyres are sitting on the guards with no springs, the bumpstops are miles from touching. I'm gonna try and weld an extention to the existing bump stop. As said above you can bend pannels with bad scrubbage. I don't mind if the tyres rub on the flares in extreme cornering or something, but you don't want the weight of your car slamming down onto your tyres.

If you've gone to the trouble of fitting flares, you should be cutting those guards as high as you can, almost to the mounting holes for the flares. Whoever does it though, make sure they stitch in some new steel to fill the void between the outer and inner parts of the guard.
