I recently took my fuel tank out the LX,Replaced all the fuel lines and fitted a new Rare Spares Fuel Sender but for some bloody reason reads incorrectly? at the moment the gauge is reading theres only 1/4 tank of fuel but im sure theres half a tank or more in there! is this a common problem with these senders?.Wondering if theres a problem on the Gauge side behind the dash?

Gday 76SLR..
I purchased a fuel sender from rares and have had no probs.
If you want to check your gauge in your dash you can try the resistor method.
It has been done before if you use the search tool I am sure you will find it.
The very basic outline is this.Pick up some resistors from your local electronics joint...will only cost you a couple of bucks. From memory they were
10 ohm 33 ohm 75 ohm.. ( I think 1 watt)??
Disconnect the sender wire from your tank and connect one end of the resistor to the wire and earth the other end of the resistor to your cars bodywork.
With the ignition in the on position the following should happen.
when done with the 10 ohm the gauge should read full.
when done with the 33 ohm the gauge should read approx half
when done with the 75 ohm the gauge should read empty.

Hope this helps..

I purchased an exchange fuel sender unit for my SLR from Rare Spares & it appears to work OK although I have discovered that it leaks fuel from the connecter pin for the wire that runs to the guage. When I went to remove the wire to fix the leak I noticed it is loose in the sender unit. Beginning to wish I'd left the original sender unit in. Oh well!

That was the reason I ended up changing mine..Fuel leaking from the same spot,I would take it out and take it back if I were you , rares are usually pretty good for things like that.

You're right generally Rare Spares are pretty good, I spoke to my local guy & he told me they sell new ones now. Not looking forward to pulling my tank out again though, put plenty of hours into painting it gloss 2K black & don't want to scratch it. Thing is though there was nothing wrong with my original sender, I bought the Rare spares one cause I didn't want to take the chance of the original one failing. Hopefully the new one will be better than the recoed one.
