*dons 5 layer flame suit, fire retardent jelly, and grabs a few fire extinguishers*

well well, i have been a naughty boy. why??? cause i spent the whole weekend playing with a fully imported 180sx rather than getting around to plyaing with torry (she hasn't been started in two weeks). i know a lot of you won't like this but i also know a few of you are into car audio and this is the main reason i put this thread up.

a mate of mine just purchased said car, fairly stock, nice tidy rims (not to big), bov with a dodgy intake pipe (i'll fix this one day), pod (i'll do this properly with heat sheilding and ducting one day to) a bleed valve, strut braces and a few other little extras. and before you all go yelling and screaming about slowness....well to be honest i went for a fang in it and it has about twice the guts as my torry. can't wait for my nitrous to arrive...i might be able to keep up then. but yeah, basicaly saturday and sunday i spent roughtly 22 hours putting a tad under $5g worth of subs and amps in there. we got two eclipse titanium series 12's and two eclipse amps to run em. also a nice new eclipse hu, and the fronts and amp that came with the car.

i don't actualy have any finished picks atm, i'll try to get them tomorow (my camera man hasn't shared those ones yet). but anyway, heres a few progress ones.

tilly after a trip to bunnings...we also went through teh crannies drive through like that to get some pies for brecky lol...

the 18mm mdf i used for the install. out of all that theres only approx 500mm square left over....dang....

the ricer itself...

the boot after we tore the sterio that came with the car out. note little cut out bit around the left shocky tower...that was from me making the new box that i was making fit....i decided to take picks so shoved it back in there for the photo lol...

yeah, the system is all in and fantastic, i have the gains turned down atm to let the subs run in a bit and i still got sick in the guts sitting in the shotgun seat listening to some decent music (korn).

personaly, i wouldent spend 5k on this kinda gear, but matt would and he loves it.

how much slower...wella lot i recon. i carried one of those big sheats out of bunnings (2.2m x 1.8m x 18mm) and i recon it weighs about 50kg (yes im strong lol), so roughly one and a half of them went in. the subs are around 30kg yeach (yes you read correct) so yeah... thats 135kg in my rough calculation.....

Looks nice man, you went proper on the enclosure aswell haha. I had a small box that i chopped to fit one 12 recently, everything went pear shaped and basically the box rattled so much i had to jam wood on top between it and parcel to keep it still and stop rattling (rattling was so loud u could hear it outside the car, sounded like the fuel tank was all loose). Basically now i pulled it out and chucked in a box i made ofr ajl 12W0 back in high school. Its ported and built with 18mm mdf, the box is nice, produces very clean tones. So its safe to say i will never opt for the convenient way of sub enclosures again.

Hurry and get the finished pics up.

All that extra weight must be fairly noticeable on that CA18.After that other thread have you been mowing your lawn or just backburning

i havn't been in the car since we put it all in, but its about the same weight as two car sluts, or a tad heavyer than matts missus, and she was in the back seat when we were out kaining it....i assure you that little ca has some balls. suprised the hell out of me. i want him to hurry up and break it, so we can get a sr20det and put in the 180....then i get the ca18 to put in the ute muhahahahahaha....now that will be suicidal.

and i actualy used a mower.....and it didn't blow up....wow.

Woah. Awesome... as far as rice is concerned. Is it all plugged in and blasting the f*ck out of your neighbours yet?

Honestly I prefer to see that setup in a Jap 2-door rather than a Torana. Good onya DJ

i'm gonna try to top that install in my torana...just with a lot less expense. got some new alpine gear coming my way....but yeah torry was playing up so i decided to ignore her for a few weeks and get stuck into my motorbike....next weekend lol.

and, believe it or not, it's not that loud outide. or inside really. it's not a loud muddy bass, just clear, crisp, and enough to nearly wind ya. a really really nice sounding install.

That's a change. I have a neighbour with a lowered VS w/ wog tacho. About five times a day he cruises into out street with the subs blasting out the harmony of a Commonwhore rattling violently, regardless of whether it's 1:00am or pm. It's definately one of the worst stereo installs I've ever heard... the sub boxes are probably just rolling around in the boot heh heh.

A few years back a mate had a 10k system put into his director after about a minute you would feel physically sick when he turned it up from the bass going through you.It was nice & clear but 10k on a system seemed crazy IMO but he was happy with it.

I dont listen to music to feel sick, and I dont like feeling sick.
I can understand a good stereo system ( subs / midrange and tweeters / amps ) but 10k and a million decibels is stupid IMO. Youll never be able to listen to it at full blast, and dont ever think of recovering your cash. What bomber watson has setup would be about the extent I would go. I much prefer the rumble of a v8 as music to my ears.

i dont think its decibels that makes you feel sick, more like low frequency.

yeah, thats it. low frequency really messes with ya. this system seriously blurrs ya vision aswell. basicaly it bgucks ya up lmao. like has been said it won't be played at max vol very often, but when it is it will impress, guaranteed. perhaps it would sound a tad nicer in a pro box, but neither myself or my friend give a ratts, if it was done by a pro it wouldnet look nearly as good. mainly cause he had no idea waht he wanted, my breif was literaly "all this in there." he did the wiring i did the rest, and basicaly i made the basics then asked where he watned to go from there, if he liked this idea or that, ect. it ended up getting a bit further than eather of us expected but i'm not worried, it loks good and is a credit to me imo.

like i said i personaly wouldent spend that much on an install, i'm going to get the rest of my gear tomorow, it will be another $800 or so. already put $400 into it but imo $1200 is fairly good, and i assure you this will be a nice system for the torana. base model alpine mp3 player, alpine type s 6.5" splits running from a alpine v power 2ch amp for the front, pioneer 6x9's in the back running from the hu (i have the speakers laying around and there blue, so will match. i rearley even have the rear speakers audible. don't like them) and an alpine type s 12" 4x4ohm dvc sub running from an alpine v power monoblock.

as you can prolly tell i like alpine, and the s type gear matches my car lol, blue and silver. this is all fairly cheap gear but sounds sweet for it's price. i would like to get some s type 6x9's for the back aswell but thats an extra $190 and i cbf'd paying that for something i'll rarley listen to, so the pioners will do. there blue, near enough.

is it low frequency or the massive amounts of air being moved by the low frequency?

probably and that. bit of both i assume. the low frequency wavelenghs tend to cut through ya a fair bit.

one other thing, you should feel the thump from the front seats...literaly feels like someone is punching the back of the seat...HARD!!!
