Hi People,
Don't shoot me down but I was thinking if the only visual difference between the two are the 5 or so nibs, can't these be grinded off and welded to create a smooth nibless effect? After painting there shouldn't be any signs of the welds. Has anyone ever tried this? Nibless rims go for around $250 each so could be a cheaper alternative.

Nibless rims haven't got the presses in the rim that hold the standard chrome centre hub caps on. Apart from date stamps, not sure if there are any other differences. I don't think by removing them will weaken the rim in any way.

they dont have the bumps for a hubcap to clip onto

Genuine nibless road wheels (P/N 2823863) have thicker wheel disks (centres).

If ya wanna do it real neat, make a bit of brass that fits in behind where the nibs were for when you weld up the holes created by grinding. Weld doest stick to the brass so gives you a nice neat finish on the back.

I suppose with the thicker centre metal it may have been difficult to press the nibs in.
