Hi guys,

What is a better choice?
triple 175 SU or triple 175 Stromberg CD???

I have triple 150 Stromberg CDs at the moment on my worked 202.
I find them now too small since my recent rebuild.

cheers

2inch SUs?

you would be much better off running a set of 40mm webers.

1.75 integral bowl su's are better than 1.75 strommy's, next step up is 2 inch su's, the 40mm webbers/dellautos are the bomb awsome carbys, for a holden 6cyl i dont think you need any bigger than a 40mm webber/dellautos....... imo

45s can work ok on a heavily worked holden 6, but yes, most times they would be overkil IMO.

Hi

You have to wonder why GMH settled on CD Strombergs for their XU-1 performance engines when they could have chosen any other make of carburettors that were available.

I suppose you have to wonder why they used SU s and half the webbers on the touring cars aswell ?

even on a heavly worked 6cyl i reckon they would be overkill ( street car we are talking here, race car difrent story), 40mm FTW...........

The half webers I was talking about were the 58mm units on Morris Xu1 by the way, where they blocked off 1 side to get a big fuel bowl.

As the story goes, they build the LC XU1 from a box of spare/scrap parts. Strombergs it was at the time, but why they didn't change from CDs when they went up in capacity (175)? who knows.
Tightarses probably correct :P

A choice based on price is probably right. But maybe tuneability/stability was also a factor. With quality linkages there's not a whole lot to go wrong and I'm sure warranty cost was a factor.

Would be an interesting question to ask Harry Firth.

rocket. they blocked off one side to comply with group C rules running the 58mm carby throat feeding 2 cylinders compared to a 44.45mm 0f a 175

Why not just use a 2 in SU, and get 50mm ? Well suppose they did on Harveys car .

i think the rules where you had to use the factory manifold and not increase the number of carby throats, so thats they they blocked one off,

I guess it depends on what you are using them for. Ive always found SU s to be good, paticularly 2in on a good manifold like cain or seton, never used webers on a six, only the IDF s on this car, wonder sometimes if its worth the dramas. Best talk to the NC guys about this subject.
