A standard original 202 which is in an LX SLR and a 186S out of a 1967-9 Monaro
The 186 has yella terra rockers, solid lifters, a solid heatseaker stage 4 cam and a straight cut timing gear.
I was wondering 2 things:
How much of the performance parts listed from the 186S would fit onto the 202??
I have heard two stories. One being that basically none of it will fit and the other being that most of it will fit!
Also do you reckon its worth putting all the performance parts into the 202 or just putting the 186S into the SLR?
Thanks alot

"The YT roller rockers aren't interchangable for 186's and 202's. Unless the rare chance your 202 has a 186 head on it, that won't be happening."The YT roller rockers aren't interchangable for 186's and 202's. Unless the rare chance your 202 has a 186 head on it, that won't be happening. As for the cam it depends if machining was needed on the 186 when it was all fitted it all in. Which may be the case if it's a solid cam. Personally I'd fit the 186 in any day over a standard 202m with all those nice bits you got in there. Or you could keep the 202 and sell me you rockers and cam
Wont they be interchangable if i put the head from the 186 onto the 202??

202, 186 & 253 all have the same bore. 202 has a longer stroke, 253 has an extra couple of holes to make it an eight.so a 253 is is the same as a 186 but bent a little bit?

Zing!I would save the 202 in the shed (cos one day even 202 SLR's will pull big $$$$$) and either fit the 186 complete as it is or get another 202 block and fit the cam, lifters and head from the 186.
I think the day when 202 SL/R's are worth big $$ is a good few decades at the very minimum away yet though.
My SL/R's 202's genuine block is currently resting, it needs a better place to store it though; 6mx7m garage is full [I mean literally so full you can barely stand in it] so it's currently wrapped up as best as possible with plastic and tarps and in the open :/

Also are 186s more reliable than 202s?

neither one is any better than the other reliability wise.
