G'day All

As you know there are a few diecast car makers out there and one I have found looks good but I don't know much about them

Anyone here collect the Dinkum Classics and how good is the quality.

I saw a set of the Dinkum Classics No25 and 05 VK commodores in a diarama (doing the form 1-2 finish at Bathurst 1984) for $360.
Each car I think costs $195 separately so this combination sounds like a good buy.

Sort of related was the fact that he told me he could of supplied the Brock Austin 7 for $175 and not the $196 as from the Biante site.

I got mine cheaper than the Biante site but dearer than this other fella

Regards ............... Barry

I've got a couple of Brock Dinkum Classics.
Had them before Trevor at Biante built that first 1 18 GTHO.

They were the best in their day, but in comparison to modern 1 43 's, they are not woth the price.

IMHO

Hi Barry,

Dinkum was a model maker based on the gold coast I believe.

The quality of their models is being far surpassed by the classic & Biante guys these days however I was told some time ago that
the factory where they were made burnt down along with all the moulds. If that is the case then they would highly collectable in my mind

I have a few of them, mainly XU1's

I only ever bought one.

A red slr5000 with a bit of LH and a bit of LX paint job.

They did some of the not so well known race cars which was cool.

I bought my first a few months back from a sweet little place in Kiama, Nsw.

The writing on the box cracks me up!

Dad's got 'Dinkum' toys from when he was a kid. Apparantly they are worth a fair bit of money... he was born in 56 so they're reasonably old models. Are you guys talking about a different kind of 'era' of this company's products?

G'day Heath

Talking about the most recent era here mate and I have no info on the factory burning down

Just looking at the prices being asked for, they seem to be high if the quality is not as good as say Biante.

There is just ONE Dinkum Classics model I am after but less said about that one as it is very rare and I've only seen one and it was at the shop where I saw the 05/25 cars famous 1-2 finish diarama

Needless to say the shop owner won't part with it

Thanks for that arrimar :spoton:

I've just done a bit of googling and came up with this from a diecast car forum

Dinkums were made between 1980 - 2000.They made many models that raced at Bathurst, over 500 models in 1/43 scale.Sreet ,Bathurst and ATCC.They may not be up to the quality of todays models, but in their day they were the best around.

They will always be far more collectable than whats available today because of limited numbers produced. They still hold their value plus. You wont see CC or Biante 1/43 models making an investment for you.Sadly they are no longer produced.

The few critics on this forum of other brands wouldn't know half the history of what was available by Dinkum or other Australian maufacturers, before todays models appeared.I agree the CC and Biante are the benchmark of 1/43 scale models worlwide now.

Remember many others were produced without todays technology nearly 20 plus years ago.I agree with the remark concerning the French resin kits, they were great and still are if you can find them.I'm lucky to have most.Try and enjoy your hobby without knocking the other manufactured brands of years gone.

They still fill many of the gaps for you,and i don't think many of those older models will ever be produced today.I collect anything Aussie made in 1/43, even plastic.

All of that was in 1 BIG block form so I've broken it up into paragraphs

My one pet hate with forum replies is when it is done in BLOCK form of 4 or more sentences as it is very hard for OLD eyes to read

Heath, I think you're talking about 'Dinky' toys, these were made in the 50s & 60s, similar to 'Corgi' & smaller 'Matchbox' cars, they were originally made in England.

Dinkum Classics were made in Australia in small quantities, not mass produced.
