Do you have your heart set on a salisbury for any particular reason, or is it because you want an alternative for a Ford product? if that the case have you considered a Borg Warner? it seems to be the weapon of choice these days

I did this many years ago. Most diff shops can do the housing, but it is a bit of a problem as the top cast in mounts have to be cut off and the LH/LX ones welded on, and some of that weld is onto cast iron. But the biggest hassle is finding A9X axles. At the time I managed to find a pair and another guy I knew with a Torana got brand new axles made which is what you'd have to do today. I'd do what has already been suggested and use a Borg Warner diff. I think a Pintara is close to the right width - there is a thread here (by Rorym I thnk) detailing what he had to do.

G'day Stu, I noticed you were from Darwin. I have an LX Hatchack (same floorpan as a sedan) with a salisbury in it if you want to have a look. I will be taking it out in the next couple of weeks to fit a 9". And yeah I know it's a ford diff. But seeing as I will have HQ wheels, WRX seats and an EFI V8 from a commodore I Figuire itsa a bitsa anyways......
hi homer, thanks for your reply. yeah it'd be great to see the diff. only a few old school rides up here in the top end. the ford thing was only a joke. i had a mate that used to hate working on them.

Changing the upper arm mounts on the body is one way of fitting a Salisbury. I have read that it was common for race teams to do this modification when the Salisbury was introduced.

This sold on eBay recently, I can not vouch for its authenticity.

thanks for your replies guys, the 10 bolt is the same as the a9x so i guess thats the reason for wanting to choose it. i realize it has its limitations. esp. with aftermarket support of the 9". also ive heard of early commodore salisburies being used as the track is one inch wider than the torrie. but to me thats when you have to start welding the cast iron housing as the commode mounts are way different.
Commodore top mounts on the 10 bolt are identical to those on all HQ-WB sedan/wagon/statesman/coupe and also A9X. The cast centre is the same thing. Also the same as HQ-WB tonner/ute/van except they don't have the holes for the upper control arm mounts drilled/bored. I agree with ls2lxhatch ie don't use the 10 bolt unless you have to. You'd be better off with a BW.
