I had mine sand blasted and am happy with the job cost $1400 for everything even underneath and enginebay. sand blasting does not remove all of the old bog and a good one will not do centre of bonnet, boot, roof too much because of possible warpage so you may have to do a bit there yourself.
probably not good on a car unless its is completely stripped bare.

the only thing is that after many times turning on the rotisary i still get old garnet on the garage floor. although i must say not very much at all any more.

Soda is the prefered option as the by product is water soluble. Soda blasted pannels can be left loger before painting is required to prevent surface rust forming.
Sand/Grit or Bead blasting can warp pannels due to the heat created combined with operator care factor and expirience. Soda doesn't generate the same heat but a cowboy operator could still warp your pannels.
The one benifit Sand/Grit or Bead blasting has is it is better for rusted areas.

So if you have your car soda blasted , does this mean you can simply hose out the reidue left and it will all disolve , with nothing left to worry about????? and what do you do to the bear metal before you paint it , have heard of some paint adhesion problems , cheers

Hose of soda reidue and it's gone. Just need to make sure you dry it off with some compressed air and it won't rust.
Paint adhesision problems I don't know about.

i had my car sand blasted, there are many different grades of garnet and if the operator has half a clue he wont damage anything.

my car has never had any repairs (whole car had 4 car parkies in it and no rust) and i had it blasted inside and out of every panel with no damage for $600.

i'd happily sand blast again

i had my car plastic media blasted and it came up really good. doesnt affect paint adhesion and you just blow it away with compressed air.

i had parts of my car sand blasted. door jams, engine bay, sills ect. its great, didn't do any damage, they wont do bonnets as the will warp. sand blasting wont remove bog, or body sealant completely. my blaster immediatly paints the panels in primer to stop rust. all part of the service.

We've done a couple of cars where we had just the engine bay soda blasted. Fantastic results and easy to clean up ready for paint.

Particularly useful for generally unrestored cars where the engine bay needs a freshen up.

I've also helped restore a few cars that have been sand blasted. That stuff keeps coming out from everywhere.

Soda blasting sounds good from the post up there, except maybe the cost...

I want to blast the coupe before i fix the rust and spray it, and i would love to Soda blast it.

Steve
