how do you check to see if the PCV is working properly?
Squeeze the hose after the valve and see if the revs drop.
and what is a leakdown test?
Just run a compression test first.

Place the bolt in one end, put a hose clamp holding it. Put the other end over the dipstick tube (with dipstick removed) and put hose clamp over and tighten it. Wala, problem solved

Dip stick tube is on the wrong side of a 202, crank blows oil strait up it.
Cheers.

Get a piece of 5/16" fuel line about 2" long, two hose clamps and a bolt that fits snuggly inside the hose.
Place the bolt in one end, put a hose clamp holding it. Put the other end over the dipstick tube (with dipstick removed) and put hose clamp over and tighten it. Wala, problem solved

Whats the worst that can happen if i did this? Where would my oil go?

Clean out the pcv valve or replace it. If it's sticky you could have a lot of air being pulled through at idle, probably also rough running and inconsistent idle speed. It should also have either a vented filler cap (like the old reds etc had) or a hose from the rocker cover to the air filter as on the later engines. This is just to allow fresh air to enter the engine to replace the air pulled through the pcv valve. If you have neither of these you could end up with enough vacuum in the engine to dislodge cork gaskets..Sorry this isn't going to help the OP, but is sort of related to the topic. My engine is creating a lot of vacuum inside the rocker cover, enought that if I pull the front seal out it will whistle if its still half in. Doesn't seem to be causing any issues and isn't breathing out so just wondering what it is

Ah thankyou, I've been baffled for ages as to why it had vacuum inside the thing. I don't remember if the pcv is actually fitted anymore because the rocker cover i have is only 2 hole and I think the one pipe connects to something else and the other hole is just sealed. I've got a nice new rocker cover to go on with a breather so I'll chuck that on, cheers!

Did a compression test. Got 180 on 4 cyls, 175 on 1, and 170 on the other. Now what do i do???
Did you do this wet or dry?
Couple of things, first, if the above figures are dry and a wet test bumps them up I would think there is alot of blowby past the rings.
How old is the motor? Does it use oil or burn oil?
Is the PCV system working?
IS the dipstick sealing?

IMO your readings would seem ok for a dry test but it does not hurt to do it properly.
