CHEV ALTERNATOR BRACKET DRAMAS

I had a gilmer belt on my chev which ended up snaping the top bolt in the block. Got the bolt out, replaced with grade 8 bolts got rid of gilmer belt and went back to v belt. Snapped top bolt again, had to heli-coil this time.
Purchased new alternator and bracket from rocket ind. which was heaps stronger looking but wont stop the flex in the bracket which inturn pulls the far side of the alternator around making the belt not run true. Anyone own a chev and have had the same problem and fixed it????

Bones is this a customised bracket or an off the shelf item?? Sounds just like what I need to fix my issues. One of the Alt brackets we are using at present is all welded together and has a stay back to one of the three engine mount holes on the block. No flex in the bracket at all

Trick is to replace with really soft bolts.
I used some that I got from the hardware store!
A high tensile bolt usually has a low shear factor and will therefore break easier than a softer more supple bolt that will allow a small amount of sideways movement.

Use stock bracket as it has a hole to put a lever in to tension belt @ chrome
aftermarket ones havent. Have had Chevs fore years , never a problem .

were using grade 5 bolts and a shitty old bracket and a short pump, but with the old long pump weve never had these problems.
Only ever use a V belt though... I Dont do it up Tooo tight.. no drama here!
best of luck!

Gates is a good brand maybe you need to touch your pulleys with some pulley soap i cant remeber exactly what it does, but it aids in teh belt gripping the pulley and stopping the squeal.
TO tension mine i make sure theres around 10mm of "travel" in the belt when i push on teh long side basically it moves teh length of the first joint of my finger when i push on it. Seems ot have worked ok so far!
Just an idea mate.. i can thin kof nothing worse than what your going through!! i hope it gets sorted for ya one way or another
Best of luck.
