Hi guys, might be a stupid question.

But i need to make speaker holes in my slr door trim and was wondering how would be the easiest way to do it.

I thought using a jigsaw to cut the circle what do you guys think as i dont want to stuff em up.

thanks

If you dont want to stuff em then dont cut em IMO.

But a Jigsaw will make easy work of it.

Gday

I used a dremel tool (an imitation, but does the same job) to do mine. Dremel-type tools are much handier than jig saws and will produce cleaner, less jagged cuts in the door cards.

Cheers,
Clint

The slow method is to use a sharp knife, doesn't take long to cut through the board

Buy some of the fibreglass speaker pods and if you are clever you'll be able to install them using only 2 or 3 small holes, if there is carpet on the bottom of the trims that would easily hide the holes later if you remove them.

haha not in an LC/LJ anyway. There's nothing wrong with a well mounted pair of 6"s or 6.5"s in the kick panels of a box Torrie. I don't see the attraction to having 6x9s at your feet but okay.

If you want it in the door cards then a dremel is not a bad way.

6x9s in the front would get more bass down to the front, some high-end stereo installs run a three speaker per side set-up 8" Woofer(sub), 5-6" mid-range and a tweeter. It's all about reproducing a "perfect" listening environment, when you go to a concert or a to see a pub band they don't put the speakers down the back do they?

6x9's in the front are one of the easiest ways to ruin any decent sound quality in a car.

But if you are flush mounting the speakers you need to cut away some metal in the inner door so as you have room for the speaker magnet to sit. The alternative is to have them protruding and use MDF or fibreglass and on a Torry I dont think it looks quite right, a bit ricerish if you ask me. Jigsaw cuts the inner door if you decide you have to.

Getting 6" speakers in the drivers side kick panel doesnt leave a lot of room for the accelerator pedal, I ended up putting 4" speakers in my custom console for that very reason. (Lh LX not sure about other Torries).

Then again regardless of what gear I have in the car I am not big on music whilst driving, I like to hear the dual 2.5" symphony :)

Cheers

There is a nice circular hole factory in my LX hatch doors so no metal cutting required at all to fit a good set of 5.25" (I'm pretty sure that's the size), flush mounted. The location isn't perfect for sound quality but 100% better than in the kick panels, clears the window mechanism and everything else inside the door nicely. Do the taxis not have this hole?
