Hey Guys,

For all us Victorian Members, Who would be interested in a GMH-Torana Cruise, where we can all donate money to help support the poor buggers affected by bushfires.

Would just be a small cruise, we can meet in Upper Ferntree Gully (Ferntree Gully Motel) and see first hand effects of one fire, then maybe head up Mt Dandenong or something, and see how devastating fire could be to a community. We will steer clear of anywhere like Hurstbridge, Kinglake etc... Maybe next year we can have a memorial cruise up there and hopefully support some businesses up there if they decide to open back up again.

We can throw the hat around and put in a donation from GMH-Torana.com.au and do something...

Who would be keen?

I would be if I lived in Victoria.

I was hoping the Council of ACT Motor Clubs might have rallied the 50 odd??? car clubs here to do something but the council doesn't arrange runs.

I like the idea, but being such a long distace for us to travel, I'd feel better just donating my petrol money. The following year as a memorial run no worries, by then cash won't be the immediate need & they'll definatly appreciate the business of ppl coming thru.

My car is now on the road after the engine bay resto. I'd be in as long as it was on a Saturday, I work Sundays but I do have the next 3 weeks off.

Count me in.

I am happy to come along, but it won't be in a Torana.

We spoke about this tonight at the Council Committee Meeting.

Doing a cruise would draw attention to the cars. We didn't feel that this particular event is not about drawing attention to ourselves or our cars. It was suggested that it may be better to have a Car Club Challenge on the National Telethon Night, with Car Clubs encouraged to make cash donations. How they raise that cash to donate is up to them.

The FX-FJ Club (ACT) will start the challenge, unless of course somebody beats them to it.

H'mmmmm disagree with the logic not the cause :)

I thought it would be an ideal time to show the general public that not all people with flash or desirable cars are not all inconsiderate hoons and that we do care :) My 0.05 cents worth.

Was thinking about this again before.

I do think it is a good idea but i think its going to be ages before we will be able to do a cruise to the places effected worst because of the cleanup effort that is still require and may not have even been able to be started at some places yet. Theres still heaps of roads closed and police are restricting so many areas.

Yeah, a memorial cruise in a years time might be a better idea... Maybe to just a town that wasnt effected as much by the tragedy...

I doubt that all the roads from Yarra Glen to Seymour are going to be open again in 3 weeks time when I head up for Drag Day. I always go that way up there as its a much less stressful drive and the towns are all so nice and friendly. I dont want to be a nosey tourist... So unless the roads have been opened up for weeks ill be heading up the standard way.

All of the clubs I am a member off have made donations from $500 - $1000 on behalf of the members

Might I suggest that GMH-torana (if it hasn't) open up paid membership options. You get a T-Shirt, Key ring and membership - other clubs I am a part of charge between $30-$60 for this.

We have graphic designers who would gladly donate there time, we also have members who can screen print.

My thoughts on the cruise are the same as everyone elses... too soon and people don't wanna be reminded that we have toys and they don't also I know for a fact that the roads are closed for atleast another 4 days - Next year we can all go on a tribute cruise.

I have donated a lot already but am prepared to dig deeper. Why not have a thread here saying "donating to Telethon" .. during ther teleathon we put our amounts down we will send to a coordinator (mod) - when the time is right the Mod then calls up channel X and says we are donating this amount if read out on TV.

I think everyone needs to re read the original thread. MRLXSS wants to organise a cruise in honour of these people. To somewhere not badly effected by the fires so we can throw money in a hat and donate it to the people that need it. Then in a years time do a memorial run to one of the town devastated by the fires. That's how I took it, seems everyone thought he meant " lets go to kinglake for a stick and see whats going on".

^ Yeah, i was just thinking of a cruise up to Mt Dandenong. Maybe to a lookout where we might be able to see from afar the areas affected ^

I read it exactly that way too and any monies raised NOW would be most helpful for the people, trying to raise a few dollars in 12 months time won't do diddly-squat (MHO) However a memorial run will show people that some still care :)
The runs could be anywhere at the moment not in the burnt out areas though as this would only hinder work there.
Even though I am not a Victorian or likely to travel down for this run I agree with the principle it should go ahead asap and in various states too.. What a great way to show people we can do more than terrorise their streets with burnouts :)

Speaking of burnouts the dickhead at the end of the street with his ricer just did another even after we spoke with them stating we would file a police complaint if it kept up. sigh

Cheers

Matt, if you are thinking of a memorial cruize in 12 mths time to some of the worse hit areas, remember, there will be memorial days planned already.

I know that if i was a survivor, & i was attending the 1yr memorial, a bunch of loud cars entering town on the day while the services are being held, probably wont show us in a good light.

Sorry to be a party pooper m8, but i admire your intentions.

Cheers Col.

Hi,

There was an article in today's Warrnambool Standard about a local cruise including all car enthusiasts raising money, hope the link works, I'm not real good with them.

http://www.standard....un/1432585.aspx

Obviously we won't be going cos we're doing the drag day on March 1.

As for a memorial run - it doesn't have to be on THE day, but a week after or something - I think the businesses that re-build would really appriciate it. My 2cents.
