Mr-Spares is selling BIG BRAKE KIT FITS TORANA L34 SLR LH LX UC A9X L31 GTR
New kit first release, can do in any stud pattern look. Sorry not sure how to link.

The kit is similiar to Hoppers Stoppers and cheaper. It seams that the only differance is that there is no need to swap the sub axles.

Does any one know if these are worth thinking about.

Definitely doesn't look great, VT style calipers which will most likely require cutting upper arms, and the brackets have just had holes filled and re-drilled.

That was there OLD kit , I'm not 100% sure, But I think their NEW KIT it's a copy of the Hoppers kit, now using AU type rotor and AU calipers, OLD kits did have redrilled mounting points .,., QUILITY, I'VE GOT NO IDEA..........

Just as I suspected. I did talk to the guy about how he was able to make the calipers fit with out swapping the sub axels for which he couldn't explain except that there is a mounting bracket. As I said they seam similiar to the hoppers kits but with out the reputation. Just another person trying to rip Torana owners off. Thanks for your comments.

No warranty
No reciept without paying extra cause he doesn't pay GST
No fitting instructions
No engineering report

Is it worth the saving ?

if I had a new kit I'd be showing pics of that rather than the one he is showing

i looked at them a whyle back when i was going to upgrade my brakes.
As Datto said to me , hoppers are worth the extra $300 for quality, and piece of mind.

Evan.

No engineering report is a deal breaker! They aren't that much cheaper anyway are they? I thought you guys only pay around $1300 for a Hoppers kit?

edit: Evan, beat me to it, obviously my figures above are roughly correct, I didn't think that was a big difference in price

Hoppers don't come with engineers report either anymore apparently. I brought the hoppers kit that was on here last week and Lee had lost the paper work so he contacted Hoppers and they told him they dont do paper work anymore because the kits are easly complied. Which let me think whats stopping me from copying the mounting brackets & spacers and selling my own complete kit aswell since everything else is off the shelf once you've drilled the blank discs to the right pattern.

That's kinda weird but I guess the theory is still sound; your homemade brackets haven't been stress tested to breaking point so any compliance would require more in-depth testing than if you can produce a receipt for a known product that has been proven safe.

Seeing most of the stuff is available over the counter, isn't all that is really needed is a decent calliper bracket?

YES , that is true , but if you add up the cost of all the parts , I think it adds up to about the same - may be just a little more. why not get it all a once?

I have recently fitted this kit. It uses AU ii XR8 calipers and discs. It fits quite well and works tremendously. I did have to change the two lower bracket mounting bolts to dome heads as they hit the lower control arm on full lock. I also welded on UC style steering stops on the lower control arms as well as a precaution. Apart from that, I had no problems. I am very happy with it and when I had it inspected at the DMVR, I presented a letter of compliance with the ADR's from the manufacturer and they accepted the brakes as an approved modification. All up the kit cost me $900 for the 290mm kit in torana stub pattern.

Well worth the investment in my oppinion.

Don't have a replacement part number for the hubs do you?

"Don't have a replacement part number for the hubs do you?"

Not sure about the part number as he manufactures his own hubs.

"Can I see this letter ?"

I specifically requested the letter from him as it doesn't come with the kit. It simply states that all components are ADR compliant and available in the Australian market on the Au 11 XR8. He then states that the hubs are machined using correct engineering practices.....It was far from an engineering report but was enough to have them accepted.

Like I said, with a little fiddling to fit them, they work really well and are worth the money in my eyes.

Cheers, Gerry.

i brought this kit also , i paid around $850 including braided lines .I went to front mount them (no instructions sent with kit) and the caliper adapter brackets required a bit of grinding to get them to fit the stub axles .Also I found that the brake lines were way too long and wrong shape so they touched everything .I took them apart and swapped the stubs and tried to fit them as per the hoppers kit. this looked much better however the brake lines were too short at full suspension drop by around an inch ,so i called them and they replaced the hoses with longer ones "no questions asked" sent them to me Express Post . Everything bolted on with only very minor problems , it looks awesome and they seemed only to happy to help, i couldn't imagine the hoppers kits being much easier to fit or that much better in quality and although i didn't get a reciept , fitting instructions or an engineers certificate (i did however ask for and recieved a letter similar to Redslr) i have no regrets whatsoever.

No
AU has a hub that bolts to the base of the strut
They are a manufactured hub to take standard Holden bearings

Yes you definitely have to swap stub axles from left to right like the Hopper Stopper kits. I didn't have any problems with brake hose length. 6 months down the track and I still have no regrets.

Someone on ebay sells hubs to HQ stubs with any stud patten for about $330 or $350 the pair. I think they in Bayswater, vic. I searched HUBS on ebay and found them but it was a while ago.
