I had an issue with my VX commodore today. (Weather 25deg in Melbourne today).
It started to overheat (Temp gauge near full) and engine started to hesitate, dash flashed HOT on LCD screen.
But 30sec later the temp came down and normal again and all was OK.
I interrogated the ECU and no codes came up pertaining to temp. temp sensors or otherwise.
Thermo fans are working OK.
Radiator and overflow where full of coolant.
This has only happenned once so far.

I'm thinking sticky Thermostat, but if anyone has other diagnosis, I'm listening.

Thanks.

You've probably nailed it. Common fault.

Thanks Rod, I didnt now this was common in V6's.

Havent pulled off any hoses yet but cant see much from the radiator cap except for a small smear of greasy looking ruston the sides.
Probably the lubricating agent mixed with the loose rust which had me wondering if the radiator might be blocked.

I think he means to grip the hoses and feel if they crack.
Hoses stuff up from the inside out.
Another common fault you might want to look at is a crumbling plastic heater tap.

Thanks Rod. I changed the thermostat today. The old looks OK (not falling apart or pieces missing)
The heaters hoses are good and no chrunchy bit to speak of TORRIE_MAN.
Heater looks Ok too.
We will ll see how it goes,

Thanks guys.

I'd say thermostat straight away. When was the last time the radiator was cleaned?

Rodomo's right about the heater tap, very common problem with the crummydoore.

Make sure you bleed the cooling system properly or you will definitely have more overheating problems than you did before!

haha crunchy, exactly wat i meant. Wouldnt hurt to do a flush of the radiator/block. But i spose it wouldve been easier while the thermostat was out. Geez i dont miss working at the holden dealership :banghead:
