I have a stock six cylinder muffler and just wondering if there is any real big difference apart from the two pipes out the back. Internally are they the same? I'm just wondering what would happen if I was to drill out the back plate on the other side to the existing outlet and just weld another one on if that makes sense.

Cheers

The LC GTR muffler has only one inlet and one outlet in the centre of each end.

However the outlet once leaving the muffler bifurcates into two chrome tails about 4inches (100mm) long that bend down at the end.

The GTR Muffler is 12 inches (305.4mm) long.

Drilling a hole as suggested would give two pipes but would destroy the integrity of the muffler structure and in the end would be useless as well as not looking correct.

The type of muffler you are obviously thinking about is what was on the XU1.

G'day LC2250

John is :spoton: but I wish he wouldn't swear using words like

bifurcates

That's the LC GTR muffler and they are as rare as rocking horse poo
Mine is an XU-1 muffler and while it sounds great, I am still searching for one of the above ^^^^

I think the XU-1 replica muffler sells for about $70-80 or that is at least what a muffler fella told me.

Oh ... I think it was the XU-1 muffler I was thinking of ... so it would break the baffles and such if I was to do it? The muffler I'll be using isn't the best example anyhow and it won't be a fancy job, just wondering if if it will still 'muffle' as well as allow more exhaust through or will it break up the baffles and stuff inside if I was to do as suggested?

The muffler I'm thinking of has two plates on the back and one of which has a pipe on it, the other just blank

Sorry if I seem to be answering back to your advice already I just want to be sure ...

Cheers

Hi, was just wondering what diametre ( for LC GTR 2600S ) the exhaust tube was when these cars left the factory. Twin pipes at front and the single after the merge.
Cheers

Smelvin, when you are talking about the front of the muffler for the LC GTR are you referring to the "in" pipe?
If so there is one in and one out the back as per my photo and also on my LC Parts Calologue eg.

The one outlet at the back goes into a "Y" piece that is chromed with the 2 pipes close together which then point down just like this.

As I do not have an LC GTR muffler on my car, I am unable to give you any measurements as previously stated, mine is an XU-1 muffler.

I know a fella here in my home town who is the one owner of an LH SL/R 5000 and the only non original things on the car are the radio and the exhaust which is 2" instead of the 1 7/8" original. When it comes down to it, does it really matter if it is not quite the right diameter?

Thanks for the replies. I've already replaced the exhaust on my car ( 1&3/4 out of manifold then 2" for single pipe ). I was just curious about what it would of originally had.
