Mate I just had my TH350 built by Sureshift automatics in virginia. Cost me $1800 for a full manualised box with all good gear in it. Very happy with it, had a lot of quotes from shops and they were all a lot dearer.

Gear Torque in Slacks Creek - 38082020 (I've heard they're good, never used them though)
Mobi Diffs and Gearboxes in Slacks Creek - 38084576 (They did a good job on my diff, not sure if they do auto's though)

got some quotes

$1500 for sureshift
$1250 for Geartorque
$1100+ for Burpengary automatics

The guy at bupengary said the th350 might not be strong enough and is prone to fail and that they have had some of them last 2weeks and even 2days before they break. bit worried now... cant afford to upgrade to something like a th400. its not like i run slicks and lift wheels off the ground. might be ok

How much power are you pumping out at the fly???

TH350's are a pretty strong box

about 430hp @ the fly

only really use Street tyres, ocasionaly goto the track for a thrashing.

iv only ever heard the turbo 350 can hold plenty of HP, i guess it has held up till now and i thrashed it like crazy. Except for the 3rd/reverse clutch pack has gone. bought my turbo box off a member of this forum, was meant to have Kevlar bands and extra clutches and lots of other goodies, guess ill find out when i get it pulled down.

Ring Neil at Precise Automatics. He will tell you straight out and he knows what he is talking about. Have also heard good things about Geartorque and Bob Grant from mates.

ahh yea, ill give those guys a call tomorow.. the bob grant shop is a 2min drive... only memories of that shop is some guy there in a BMW ran my mate over and destroyed his bike and there was blood everywhere and all the guy did was pull 50buks out of his wallet and gave it to my m8.

nice skids on GMH drag day m8 lol

Precise built my Torana box and I am really happy with it. Bob Grant built my mates TH350 that was behind a 425rwhp 355 and it was problem free as well.

Had to skid it hard cause it wasn't playing the game haha

Bob grant gave me a $1800 quote, get what you pay for but out of my price range

going to take my box into precise automatics tomorow morning and there going to pull it down and inspect it.
niel said anywhere between 1k and $1700, hopefully around 1k would be good.

wish i could of hit the strip in my torana that day. Went to an industrial area after the drag day for some fun haha

By the sounds of it your gearbox is as much fun as mine to get out. (engine out to get box out). In that case I would want to trust the person building it, who wants to do that job twice for the sake of saving a few bucks.

yeh haha... its impossible to do it without lifting the engine up and out as the bell housing bolts just about touch the firewall. my engine and box have been out soo many times.... im getting realy quick as it and the more i do it the less stressful things get. biggest pain in the ass is getting my HE sump over the crossmember, need the perfect angle or its a no go.

iv seen a V8 in an LJ close up and they look real tight in there

Might be a good idea to upgrade your tranny cooler at the same time

How did you go with your box mate?

SLR Goats idea of upgrading the trans cooler at the same time is some excellent advice, check the hoses to, Hate to stuff a new gearbox for the sake of a few bucks worth of hose.

Prob not the best time for him either, He would have been flat out coming up to the tin tops and on top of that had his own car to prep so he could race. If you still have a daily I guess your lucky in that you don't need it back urgently. The wait now will be worth it in the long run

got a quote back for $3,500 for the works or $2350 for less goodies and new drum which is the expensive part. blows my budget right up, but if i spend any less they said it will just fail again.

My th350 that was meant to have all these goodies in it ended up being dead stock with a shift kit only... wont mention the name of the forum member who sold it too me.

thinking about ripping all the automatic crap out and converting to R154 5 speed, would cost around the same after i sell off the automatic gear.

Bugger, No good at all Nathan. Would be spewing about needing all new bits but once it is done then you know it will hang together. I guess it depends what you plan to use the car for as to where you go from here.

I think a decent clutch that will hold up to your power and some erm abuse wouldn't be cheap at all, then buying a conversion, tailshaft, crossmember all the bits that go with it, you will be up for a fair amount of money.
