Hey All

Our Turbo 350 Transmission in the torana has been working perfectly, no shifting problems etc. All of a sudden the other day I started the car, reversed out of the garage, and opened the bonnet, and luckily so. About 2 litres of transmission oil came gushing out of the filler tube all over the motor and down onto the driveway. Its weird because I had only used it the weekend prior and it was perfect. We only bought it 4 months ago but we didnt touch the internals or anything when it was out of the car.

Anyone had this before? What sorts of things could be causing this? Someone said something about the breather??

Thanks for your knowledge

Cheers
Brett

sorry mate a bit off topic but did you have to do any trans tunnel mods to get it to fit?

When you topped up the transmission did you have the engine running?

No modifications needed at all to the trans tunnel to fit a TH350, there is for a turbo 400 though I believe.

You just buy the CAE crossmember and mounts and away you go

No we didnt have the engine running. The transmission took about 7 litres of oil as well, it had no oil in it as we drained it all when we changed the sump. We had put 5 litres in and the trans still didnt shift, that extra litre or two got the oil circulating and the transmission was working fine and shifting fine after that.

There's probably a litre or so in the converter as well.

I normally run anywhere from 7.5 - 8 Litres in my TH350, depends on size of converter (diametre, not stall size)

I have seen it come out of the breather before but not out of the tube

It may be just that you overfilled the transmission. When you drain the oil by removing the pan the converter still holds around 2 litres. If you then added 7 litres that would be around 1 litre too much.

The correct method for checking transmission fluid is with the engine running and the gearbox in park. The oil will expand significantly once hot and then level will vary considerably between running and stopped.

Thanks for all the help

From memory we actually added the last 2 litres or so when the engine was running and checked it (whilst running and warm) and it was showing as full. Maybe we did just add way too much oil because I drained the pan (what you would do for an oil change) last night and it still had about 4 - 4.5litres in it. From what I read on the net thats about correct for an oil change in them?

Just puzzles me how it has been running perfect for a couple of months and then as soon as I started it the other day it came gushing out.

Here's hoping its something simple.
