Hi All,

Can anyone please tell me exactly what ID Tags/plates, VIN, Chassis bnumber there should be on a Torana?

I have an LH, which I bought with NOTHING on it. No plates, and no stamped number. But it had been registered with a new government VIN number, so that is what I am using. (maybe the chassis number has been painted over?)

Also I am looking at buying a hatch. No plates/tags, but there should be a chassis number stamped into the body somewhere right??

I can work out what all the tags mean, I just need to know where all numbers SHOULD be located first.

Hope this makes sense.

THANKS :)

Chassis number should be on drivers side chassis rail down near radiator and should start with ALH***** being a LH
Cheers Pete......

Later ones could begin with BLH or CLH.

Hi Toranav8. Why would you be interested in buying cars with no numbers? Doesn't that just scream "STOLEN!" to everyone?
Not having a go at you, just curious.

Nah good question.

The LH - Was given a government vin number, so had no issue with that. And reason for sale was legit. Car was deff not stolen.

The Hatch shell, guy seems legit, old fellow who has used it as a donar car. Thats why I want to know where the Chassis number is. Basically, if it was a sedan, I may be a little specptical, but a hatch is a hatch, and I dont care if it doenst have plates.lol.

Just got a call from the guy - Plates were stolen off it, when it was housed on his farm.

But of course I will sus everything out when I get the chassis number. Guy should have some old rego papers if he has had it for 20yrs.

Furry muff.
The Chassis number should be here:

It's the small rectangular bit that you can just make out on top of the chassis rail (beside the radiator and under the intake pipe, right in the middle of the photo).
And yes, they are quite often painted over. A little bit of sanding will normally uncover it.
There are also 3 plates along the upper rear edge of the engine bay:

2 shiny ones (drivers side and middle)

and 1 painted one on the passenger side (I think they're normally painted, dunno why).
I hope this helps.

Yeh, My partner had a look at the car last night. Was too dark to see much he reckoned, and said he couldnt see anything. But he didnt know exactly where to look either.

From my memory - The chassis number would be sitting right under the charcol cannister, no wonder I cant find it on my sedan!!!!!

Anyway, we bought the hatch anyway. Pick it up this weekend. Hopefully the number is there, if not bad luck. As I think it was an SS :(:(

Thanks so much for the pics, really nails it on the head.
