ok so i know im starting a new thread but im pretty serious about doing this swap, i can get the engine for nothing and its in prety good nick. i just wanted to know if anyone has seen this happen before? will it slip straight in there without chopping the firewall? im not interested in people telling me to sell my car or put a rotaty or sr20 engine or anything like that im happy with this conversion for now and was looking at putting some more money into the car later down the track so i was just wondering will it slide in and be easily rego'd or will i need to cut away at the firewall? pics or links would be greatly apreciated! thanks in advance for any help or input at all!
looking forward to hear from ya all
cheers brad

Id say it would fit without too much hassle.
you would need all the custom bits, like tailshaft, GB crossmember, engine mounts etc.

Have heard of one being done but they had the engine to far back and the rocker cover hit the firewall, I think they did it because the shifter on a Gem comes out near the bellhousing. Am about to start one soon, been given a Gem for nothing and have the Hb in the shed in pieces.

I know you're sick of hearing this, but...
WHY BOTHER???
Save your money, keep it stock for the meantime until you're ready to spend some serious money on it, then do something worthwhile.
The amount of money and time spent on doing the Gemi conversion, not to mention the extra money and messing around for the next 12 months or so afterwards trying to get it right and chasing out the bugs... Is it really worth the extra 25 (or so) horsepower???
Some things you may not have thought of yet... (maybe you have, I don't know)
-Speedo cable conversion and speedo calibration
-All the rest of the gauges/warning lights/senders (except fuel, i guess)
-Tailshaft and different uni joint compatability
-Diff strength
-Wiring loom differences
-Cooling e.g. Radiator size and hosing/heater hoses
-Gear shifter position and tunnel clearance
-Brakes
My point is there's a hell of a lot to be considered when doing an engine conversion, it's not as simple as slapping a donk in and away you go.
If it's what you really want to do then no one can stop you, I'm just trying to talk some sense into you before you waste your money.
But hey, it's your money, I spose...
Good luck with whatever you decide. Sorry for the discouragement.

What's the latest with the car? Is the Isuzu motor still going in?

The gemi motors are a good motor. You may need to run a remote shifter or a different gearbox as the gemini shifter DOES come out near the bell housing. As long as it isn't a diesel motor it is a 1.6 Litre. If it is what you want to do then go for it. Just make sure you have everything sorted before you start putting it all in.
