Am I correct in thinking that only the wood grain dash can be made into a silver SLR dash (by the dash doctor or similar)

Or cna my black SL dash be converted into a silver SLR dash. I dont want those nasty silver stickers.

What are my options: ??
Buy a silver dash from ebay (it'll most like need reconditioning)
Buy a wood grain SLR dash and get it converted

do I have any other options??

:)

The black dashes are more difficult to convert than the woodgrain dashes. The black dashes are also worth more than a woodgrain dash.

'get it converted' lol rub it back til it's smooth and even, mask it up, spray it with some good plastic primer, spray the silver, re-colour the silver lines around the outside and put it back in the car. Suhweet as

Yeah, Also, just get a new "SLR" Ashtray from rare spares for $50.

Sure its not genuine, but it sure does look right to 99% of the population!

What is the silver colour called and can you get it in a spray can?
The outline is easy...using a silver highlight pen.

Dash colour ,,, ' Portland GREY- metallic ' .. I think it's listed as a GMH Colour:
Dulon : 04045 GRP2 M74-75
It's mixed with NO clear .

I also have a Dulux # 577-15870 - not too sure about that one.

Unless properly prepaid, paint just rolls off those dashes.

I'm really not into that interior, each to their own. I've seen dashes that have been completely painted in a different colour looking better than that.

But look at the pedals in that car, and I don't just mean look at how ugly they are! The accelerator is on the left

the small foot thing is a foot rest, not the accelerator you can just see the accelerator in the pic in the normal position

When painting parts like this that won't be clear coated, i add a cap full of hardner to the basecoat. This means it'll retain the satin finish but is more durable than basecoat by itself. Some may think this is dodgey or won't work, but there is a formulation for this method in paint system i use. I've painted a few dash parts this way, mainly for Commodores, & i've never had any problems.

It used to be common to fit the small surfer foot to the foot operated dip switch and a larger surfer foot on the accelerator.
