i want to get a decent coating onto my bonnet hinges. (not show car though)
do the hinges need to be fully disassembled for this, and re-riveted later.
or can the hinges be left assembled and coverage is good?
and the springs? would the spring need to be tensioned so the coils are not touching each other?

Brett 32i
I just had my bonnet hinges, springs and bolts along with the bonnet stricker plate and catch done in zinc plating. No disasembling required. It looks like new and only cost me $65. It is very much like an original factory finish. I highly recommend it.
Cheers.

hey red, could you post some picks of the zinc finish you got?
and brett, i painted mine, didnt tension the springs cause when the bonnets open the springs are relaxed and i sprayed into every corner i could get to (i didnt disaasemble) they turned out ok.
heres a pic (click on picture to get a closer look)

They actually turned out really well, just get into all the spots with your spray (behind the arms etc.)

A picture of the bits in the engine bay I had had zinc plated. Sorry no closer ones, it's the only one I have.
Cheers

hey Torana482HP, I got mine zinc plated like redslur did and they came up great, they need a polish though. it cost me a bit over $100 to get the hinges, springs bonnet catch (still gotta get the striker done yet), all of my door hinges and all the bolts done. I got them done out near the supermarket in long gully, I think it was Bendigo electroplating. good people to deal with
IMHO the platung looks alot better and there is no need to dissassemble the hinges. I would say you would need to pull your hinges to pieces to get them powdercoated

Sweet, i might have to pay them a visit.
Do you need to strip the paint or just give the parts strait to em?

just gave it to em, if they have heaps of paint on them they would prefer them stripped. my door hinges were a bitch for them, they had aboyt 6 different layers of paint, including at least one of 2k, they still stripped them for me though
