A friend of my family owns a very good panel shop and he's offered to give my LJ a respray if I strip all the stuff off it and prep it. The car's in pretty good condition to start with (no rust, very little bog) so I was just thinking of rubbing it back a layer of paint with some fine sandpaper, getting 2 or 3 dents it has pulled out and getting him to layer on a few coats of the original colour with some clear. I'm going to get my engine bay done aswell seeing there's no motor in it so I'm going to cut out the battery tray and blank off the heaterbox holes while I'm there.
Whats the best way to do prep the whole car for this? I was going to obviously remove the lights/chrome strips etc. Whats the best way to get rid of the shitty paint in the engine bay?
And finally, who sells the little plastic clips that hold the chrome strips down along the sides of the car?
Prepping LJ.

Those clips down the side of the car, I just grabbed some from the wreakers. But i would be interested also if someone makes them brand new.

First i'd be having a good chat to the panel shop/painter and ask how they'd like you to do it and what it needs etc, after all we'll all give you a hundred different ways to go about it and you'll only end up back at square one.
You could either paint strip the engine bay, sand it by hand, or machine sand it, whichever way you go will be messy and tedious and will need to be Primed and puttied. Its going to be a tough job but will look nice in the end.
Give Bill at The Rubber Shop at 148 Southpine Rd Enoggera a call (07) 3354 2053 and have a chat, he sells all types of clips, rubbers etc and is a really helpfull friendly guy who's always up for a chat. I'm pretty sure he stocks these clips.

I stripped my engine bay with a 9 inch grinder and a wire wheel, you have to be careful though, it can damage the metal. a skim of glazing putty after your undercoat will fix it if you damage it though. in my eyes this is the quickest and easiest way to do it.
