Hi guys, I am just about to buy a new Holley electric fuel pump but I am not sure if I need the red or blue pump? The specs for red pump are as follows -

YOU ARE BIDDING ON A NEW IN BOX HOLLEY 12-801 ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP. IT FLOWS 97 GPH (FREE FLOW) MAXIMUM PRESSURE IS 7 PSI AND HAS 2 X 3/8" NPT PORTS. THESE NORMALLY SELL OVER $180.00 NEW. IT DOSE NOT REQUIRE A REGULATOR.

The specs for the blue pump are -

I have a 308 motor that is pretty much standard (besides a mild cam) but I am planning on hotting it up a bit. Which pump would be more suitable for me? Is either going to be ok to use? please help cheers

These are the blue pump specs -

YOU ARE BIDDING ON A NEW IN THE BOX HOLLEY 12-802-1 ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP. IT FLOWS 110 GPH (FREE FLOW) MAXIMUM PRESSURE IS 14 PSI. IT COMES WITH A REGULATOR THAT WILL REGULATE FROM 4 1/2 TO 9 PSI AND HAS 3 X 3/8" NPT PORTS. THESE NORMALLY SELL OVER $200.00. NOT SUITABLE FOR EFI GOOD LUCK!!

Blue pump
Comes with regulator
Buy yourself a gauge
Noisy as hell

Or buy a quieter pump... Carter maybe
Or a Holley Grotor

I would say the red would do the job for your application. I run the Holley red and it does what I need it to do but it is not a quiet pump. I have a mate that runs a Holley blue pump with a blown 202 and the pump noise is as loud as the engine.

I run a Holley Blue at present and it is bloody noisey
Luckily you only really hear it at idle as engine takes out sound of pump once you get going.
I tried to run it at 7psi with 3/8 fuel line from tank feeding a 650 double pumper and found that it would blow the 30amp fuse just as i hit 3rd gear.

I now run 6 1/2 psi with no problems.

I would recommend a Holley Black heaps quieter and you will never have to upgradeunless you get some serious serious neddies under the bonnet.

I have a little Carter feeding my 308 and it easily keeps up, also no reg required for the Quadrajet as it only gives 5psi

+1 for the Carter. I used to run one with a healthy 454 with no problems, so it should keep up with a 308 easily. Fairly quiet too.

Mallory 110 pump is my recommendation, quiet, reliable and no regulator required.

so whats wrong with using a mechanical pump? your combo really doesn't sound like it needs high pressure, I have always used L34 style mechanical pumps with 3/8 fuel line and never had problems with 300-350 hp motors, had a couple of holley blue pumps and the noise will drive you nuts unless you have a loud car.

Does that explain your signature Kev?

I agree, why the f*ck does everyone want to jump to electric pumps??

I would take a suitable mechanical pump any day of the week, and would only go to electric when absolutely required.

Cheers.

Dunno about others but its a heck of a lot easier and cheaper to get an electric pump here than a high volume mechanical one, the standard mechanical pumps can't keep the fuel up to a Quadrajet under full throttle for long

Suppose 308's dont enjoy the big advantage 202's have, sb chev fuel pumps fit strait on, along with all of the bloody awesome after market ones :D.

Cheers.

I did a lot of research on this...Flick the Reds and Blues..Go for the Rotary 125 or 150 Holley..not that noisy in the boot..use a good filter..a given on any pump anyway...and it will cover any upgrades you do later. This is the 150gph...the 125 is cheaper.
