Is there any reason for the fuel filter to be located before the fuel pump?
... because the distance between my rigid fuel line & fuel pump is so short, by the time I put a fuel filter in between the connection basically becomes rigid, and I've been getting problems with fuel leaks from the hose where it joins the pump (I think the movement of the engine is basically ripping the fuel line because there is no flex)
I'm wondering if I should move the filter to after the fuel pump, but not sure if there is risk of damage to the fuel pump?
BTW, specs are LJ with red 6, mech fuel pump (metal top type, not glass bowl)
...Any help appreciated.

Could you mount the filter up the back of the car? Near the fuel tank?

B4 or after, doesn't matter to the pump altho it does help keep the rust out of the pump having the filter b4 it if the tank is rusty.
If you wanted to keep the filter where it is you could probably run extra hose in a loop to give some flexibility to it.

I tried to run a filter before the pump on my LJ a few years back (with the SUs)
I ended up having problems with the fuel filter emptying under full revs (it was a normal ol' plastic inline filter)
So the car would run fine for a quick squirt, go to get back on it and it would stutter.
By the time you pulled over and got out, filter was full again....
I ended up swapping back to no filter and the problem went away.
Threw the filter back in, same drama.
I ended up running a metal/glass outboard motor filter (about 3 inches long, if that)
I havent put it back on with the webers (yet) i figure they have those inbuilt "gauze" sections to cath big bits of crap, but I will probably sort out a filter for it soon.

Thanks Chris.... not sure how that answers my question though
..... but then again, you "do post a lot"!
Out of interest, and just to further embelish on your ramblings, My filter is an anodised billet aluminium 'serviceable' filter...

Basically when I tried to run it before the filter, it caused some fuel supply problems.
although, with the webers, it may not be a problem like it was with the SUs.
Shit, wait....
alright, I see what you wrote, I read it wrong.
I thought you were asking if you COULD put it before the pump, I blame the late night/early morning syndrome.
So I suppose my answer would be yes, you can put it after the pump with no problems.
And purely out of interest, got any pictures of your filter? who makes it?

Picked it up at a car show... was in the clearance bin...can't remember who made it though.... it's got like a brass gauze filter inside....

I see no problem with it after the pump, I mean if it was a $500 fuel pump i would run a filter before it but mechanical pumps for a red 6 are a dime a dozen

...bugger, still leaking...:-(
... got a feeling there may be a slight fracture in the inlet pipe on the pump.... back to the drawing board!
