hey guy's ive got a mate who has a ve ss ute. he lowered it and put 20's on it. but he got defected the other day. so i put his original springs and struts back in. then he took the ute to the cop shop to get clearance to drive it until regency come down to clear it.and they said it's still 10mm to low in the rear.WTF???

the ute looks like a monster truck. apparently sa have different ride height laws compared to other states.yet you look at a ve cop car and there alot lower than that. the height specs are 392mm for front and 410mm for rear from center hub to guard.

has anyone else had any problems with this?? it just seems like a crock of shit to me

So are they talking ride height from the ground or clearance of the guards from the wheel? When he changed wheels he probaby went to a lower profile tire which may have reduced the overall outer diameter of the tire which brings the car closer to the ground. In terms of the guard clearance, he may have gone the other way and increased the outer diameter which brings the tires closer to the guards. If they are measuring the wheel centre to the guard however they should be the same.

Drain all of the fuel bar a few liters and see how you go.

yea they measure from the wheel hub to the top of the guard. so the wheel diameter wont make a difference.
the thing that i find stupid the is the factory suspension is too low by there specs.thats a empty ute with no fuel and you can fit your fist between the guard and tyre.

but goin by the specs the cops go off u can't lower a ve ute at all from std. if anything its too low already. let alone if your a trady with a tool box and a heap of shit in the back you could get defected.

my mate has a fair mouth on him thoe. they could just be being pricks due to his mouth

Could be his mouth.

I've got a cop mate who says he usually gives warnings but if someone has a bad attitude they cop the full treatment.

Can't blame him really, its the same in any job. If your "customer" treats you with disdain or lack of respect you tend to not look after them as well as you otherwise might.

There's a VE SS ute driving around town here with 20's and the rears are sitting under the guards, front rims are just a touch below the guards.

Has been like that for a while.

Quickly measured my VE and it is only just above those measurements.Havent touched it....yet
Bit scary that it can be defected straight away.
Also, did he get the mod plate from the factory for the 20's??
Mine is under the bonnet and on the tyre placard in the door jamb for the 20's
