My ever reliable 161 tree speed Kingswood wagon.
Its heater delete,radio delete
And its a dead set powerhouse.
A couple of months ago, some turd ran into the back of it,pushing me into the car in front.
My heart was broken.
She was a genuine one owner low milage car.No leaks, smooth ,cheap and reliable to drive.
Its only downfall was crap, sunburnt paint.
The GMH black was supposed to be a temporary measure, but it was my daily,so the paintjob was always on the backburner with plenty of other projects on the run.
Shannons declared the car a write off.
They paid me out quickly and gave me back the car.
The decision was made to fix and paint it.

That clean, straight totally rustfree tailgate was junk.
I had to cut it open to lower the widow into it so that it would open.
Both bars were junk
The front apron was junk
The grill looks fine, but the mounting pins are broken off.Likewise one of the headlight rims.
Junk.
The rear apron was pushed well in.
The subframe was pushed in behind the apron, which pulled the offside gaurd down.
Thanks to a forum member(cheers,Bruce!) I already had a serviceable front bar and apron.
And being a typical bowerbird Holden guy,I had a grill, headlight bucket and rear bar in the shed as well.
No tailgate though.
Asked all my mates, made a few calls, couldnt find one anywhere.
I found one on ebay.
"Mint" he said.
"Clean as.Rust free.A hundred bucks and its yours",he says
It sounded too good to be true.
The catch was,it was over 700 kms away.
hmmmmmmm.Ok,sold.
So off I drive to pick it up the next Sunday morning.
The short story is I drove 1450km round trip on a Sunday to look at junk.As in totally unuseable.
Not happy Jan,but life goes on.
I found one the following weekend 10 minutes from home. Its not mint, but it'll be ok with a couple of taps and some bog..
Life can be like that sometimes, you just have to laugh.
It was a nice day for a drive anyway.

But I didnt.
I bought a porta power, and with the aid of some timber blocks,a hammer,a welder and a grinder,I pushed out and repaired the front and the back. Then I ran around the car and fixed (bogged up) a few other little things .
I had hifilled the car before the GMH black went on ages ago.
I blocked the car down with 180 grit dry.,found a lot of little things that needed fixing,so fixed them, then I rehifilled the repairs(sorry,no photos again)
Then I blocked the car with 400 grit dry.
I Pissed about for a few weeks, undecided as to whether I should rip it apart further for a better paintjob.(well,ok,6 weeks) .
I finally decided on the easy slackarse option and decided to paint it this morning.
I started masking it up,and I realised I had plenty of bare metal rub throughs that I really needed to squirt some primer over.
And I should really rub it with something finer before I put the colour on.Probably wet rub it with 800.
So I reprimed the whole thing today.
So thats where Im at tonight.
I still haven't finished repairing the tailgate,Ill try and get it done tomorrow.
Thanks also to TerraLX for the loan of the panel stands.
You should have them back shortly.(another of lifes goodguys.Cheers, mate)

White with an Aztec Gold roof.I plan to mentalflake the roof if everything works out ok.
Dropped spindles and reset springs to get it down.
Red highlight stripe in the wheelarch and sill molds like HK Monaros.
Im undecided on wheels,I have some black Hustlers,Ive also got a set of hubcaps with spinners off a 66 SS Chev which look way cool.I need some 6 inch rims to use them though.
The stock 5inch rims wont allow them to seat properly otherwise.
Maybe redbands on the tyres and some pinstriping around the car here and there.I'll see how it pans out. These things have a way of working themselves out.

I helped my mate source a similar car years ago (I think HJ wagon) and was in mint condition. It had a bench seat, power glide on column and a cool long/wide speedo gauge.
He used as his only car and with 4 kids the car got trashed. He eventually sold it for $500 after blowing the power glide box (No oil)
I have a real soft spot for these old wagons. They are such a great cruising car in the standard form.
Keep the pictures coming and pull your finger out.
