My diff is out of the car, its a single spinner but really wanted to spin 2 wheels. and get the take off benefits of 2 wheels gripping.

Cant afford to buy a lsd diff. and there would be a bit of messing around to get a LSD out of a commodore diff as apparently they need to be pressed out and in.

What are the pros and cons of welding up a diff, i dont know much about it other then u get 2wheels spinning. and wheels screech on sharp turns.

Diff is a salsbury
Car is build for street use.

Thanx,
Nathan

Would be a little dangerous in the wet I would expect especially turning. I would think it would tend to understeer into corners as the rear would want to push in a straight line. Not to mention increased wear and tear on suspension components in the dry.

a spool locks your diff same as welding just alot stronger and less dodgy all it does it replaces the hemisphere where your spider gears are held prity easy to put in

we welded up the spiders in a mates craptina one morning
couple of burnouts and it was all good until he come round a corner and forgot to give it a boot full, and ended up snapping his wheel studs and putting his wheel through his back guard
BUY A SPOOL
otherwise it could just be axles, or panel damage - especially in a street car
cheers

ok thanx for that advice. i wont weld anything up lol

so a spool wont make wheels screetch around corners? and will be legal?

will the center need to be taken out? as its a salsbury, there pressed in? possible to install in the back yard?

thanx,
nathan

A spool does exactly the same job as a welded diff. They lock both axles, so it will still be illegal and screech around corners.

And they kill tyres really quick, so unless you have heaps of tyres laying around or plenty of cash, dont do it

They are a complete pig on the street

Loui is right... I recently put the 3.7:1 diff centre in my car that was complete. It's mini spooled and i hate it already.. Only driven it a handfull of times on teh road and it clunks and binds up going round corners.. i hate it.

As soon as finances allow i'm putting the 3.7 gears onto my LSD centre and be done with it! Much nicer! Also legal as everyone's said!

Ok Thank heaps everyone, i think it would be best to keep the one wheel spinner. then upgrade to something stronger later with a LSD. wouldnt really wanna slide all over the road in the wet. dont wanna go through tyres. or snap studs. or axels, and certainly dont want the wheel going through the rear gaurd..

and the less defects the better

THANX HEAPS! :spoton:
