Howdy all...
you know when you get one of those panels that goes "boing" in and then you press on the back and it goes "boing" back out?(best description i got!!) lol!
That is caused by stretched steel right?
Well, I got a slight one of those and I think I had better shrink it before i go too much further...
So my question???
Do I shrink in the middle of the depression or on the outsides and work to the middle???
If i have this arse up... please correct me.. all advice appreciated!

Cheers Greg

Don't tell me, near the rear window pillar right? That area can get pretty drummy.

Before I'd even try shrinking, I'd get the hammer and dolly, and just normalise (straighten) the metal around the edge of the indent. You'll probably find that that is enough to fix the problem. Usually don't get a great deal of metal stretch with large indents that pop out, just got to straighten the metal round the edges.

Assess the need to shrink once you've got some strength/shape back into the panel.

If paint is still good, put a tea towel and an elastic band around the hammer to try protect the paint.

Its a wee bit hard to recommend a point of attack without being able to see it, every "oil can" is different so it may be best to post some pics up at the least or have another forum member with some experience pop over and have a look.

If your after some tips there is an excellent website with forum with fantastc sheet metal craftsmen frequenting it, www.metalmeet.com , have a look at what these guys can do and read up on some posts particularly about patch panels, shrinking etc. its a great forum with really enthusiastic people wanting to help others, unlike the ego pissing contests that majority of internet forums end up as. :spoton:

Thankfully, this place is not one of em. Well not as bad as some of the other forums I've seen anyways.

Sort of like your manhood isn't measured in inches as much as it is in your post count?

Is this dint open at the back? I mean can you get at it?

useing your small heating tip " heat the area in the middle cherry hot the sizes
of a ten cent pice have a bucket of cold water handy. i like the dolly that looks like
the steel cap in a work boot . put that behind the panel and apply pressure
then cool it down with a wet rag

But listen to what yella said " as heat shrinking is the last resort :spoton:
