bugger all differences really, ratios are (for M21) 2.54:1 1st, 1.83:1 2nd, 1.38:1 3rd and 1:1 4th

for 6 cylinders M21 are a rare find...my guess is you will never see one.

More common is the M20 that saw service until the end of the VK Commododgy.

no difference in strength...just a bit different in ratio but thats about it.

In V8's you might find a an M21...according to the VK manual they were only fitted to 308's....the M20 V8 box came behind 253 and 308.

essentially...yes...its just the input shaft and throwout bearing sleeve....but I don't think its a case of being able to swap them over...i'm pretty sure some ppl here know something about it..we covered this in the old forum....we covered lots in the old forum....lost to the ether!

There may be a difference between the 6cyl cluster and the V8 cluster, from memory 1st or 3rd gear is different between them (as well as the input shaft).

L34 had a different 3rd gear, cluster gear and input shaft to the standard M21, I can't remember the ratios off the top of my head. Other than that M21's are all the same. M20 was behind the 253 and 202 and had different ratios.

clusters between 6cyl and V8 M21's do differ. The 6cyl XU1 box had a 1.25:1 3rd gear as opposed to 1.38:1 3rd in the V8 boxes. 6cyl M21's are as rare as hens teeth. The '73 bathurst cars had alternate ratios being a 2.32:1 1st gear and these are.....well,whats rarer than hens teeth?
L34's were also fitted with both the XU1 style boxes with a 2.32 1st gear. I think the cluster gear part number is 9939484 or someting like that.

Cheers all.
