PRESS RELEASE - WHEELS ON WIDEBAY SPRINTS

Leyburn Sprints, Speed on Tweed, now Wheels on Wide Bay. A keen group of members from the Australian Motor Sport Enthusiasts Club (Inc) (AMEC), have got together to organize the inaugural motor sport sprint event in the Wide Bay area. The group recognized that there was nothing for the bitumen motor sport addicts north of Brisbane, and so decided to do something about it. Now with the full blessings of the Maryborough Council they have commenced organizing a sprint event, to be held in the Wide Bay Showground Complex, on the weekend of 24th & 25th June 2006. With a meet the drivers on Friday afternoon the 23rd, between 2 & 8pm.

The track is 963m with a super tight hairpin. The event is open to road registered, non road registered, sports, racing, formula libre, and all wheel drive vehicles. The organizers are expecting entries from the Clubman Car Club of Qld, who are current record holders at Leyburn, Porsches, Ferrari, Cobra's a Chevy Monza, Open Wheelers, Specials, a liberal smattering of WRXs, V8 Clubman, and the usual Ford, Torana, Escort, Mini, and Corolla punters.

There will be static displays, some from local car clubs, and full catering all weekend. There are camping facilities for competitors and crew with amenities for 104 at the showground, and the township of Maryborough is only 5k away with excellent eateries, clubs and accommodation houses.

Check out their website at, www.wheelsonwidebay.com or contact Keran Crozier, the event secretary on 07 4159 4076 or 04377 34710.

Great info rory, not sure if you've seen it yet but we have a whole new part of the forum dedicated to motorsport now. I'm sure a mod will move this there...
Nonetheless, keep the info coming ;) Wouldn't mind seeing pics of these events as been in Vic I'm abit far away to travel to stuff in Q/land

Cheers

Thats the ad in Sats paper. Think it refers to 150 entrants. Also has Shannons as second sponsor.

Here it is, Channel 7 Wide Bay has asked me to do the TVad, you might get it at the Sunny Coast. I have a double pit so if any XU1s want to come from Brisbane there is a display area. Darren?
