If the Bathurst Special 72-73 LJ XU-1's did 14 Sec's over the Qrt Mile, what would the V8 LJ XU-1 of done over the Qrt.

I had a 1977 LX SS L31,M21 4Speed Hatch with ...
,it was a 9/77 LX SS,is there any other freak 77 LX SS L31,4 Speed one like that,or did i just score a freak one.

My stock 253 auto done that too, infact they a done that, doubt they would have cracked 15's over the quarter tho without a ratio change.

XU2308 your 3rd gear revs with 24" height tyres, so 14s at 200kph = 7600rpm

just to add to that i worked out 1st &2nd for you

1st 24"tyres 2.78 diff 100kph =6200rpm

2nd 24"tyres 2.78 diff 1.83 ratio 140kph = 6300rpm

i hazard a guess and say you meant 180kph in 3rd

a very very healthy stock engine can achieve this level. i would say that it is fair wringing its neck though

My other 1977 LX SS L31,M21 4 Speed,3.08 Banjo Diff never went any where as Fast in Pick Up or Top End as my other 77 LX SS L31 Hatch with the 2.78 Banjo.

you would think the 3.08 one would of had more pick up with a 3.08 Ratio than my other SS with the 2.78 ratio ????????
They went Different all together the 2.78 Ratio SS was a lot Quicker Car and better top End of course with 2.78 Ratio,The HT Motor in the 2.78 Ratio was more HP than the HT Motor in the 3.08 Ratio SS

This just goes along with what I was saying variations in build quality meant that some cars were better then others, even today the latest Nissan Skyline R whatever the factory won't give a HP rating for it as they themselves say due to the handbuilt nature of it's ultra high preformance motor there are varations in ouput from car to car

I had a SS L31 4 Speed back in 1989 and I had five (big) guys in the car and at full tilt along the little freeway heading south from Wodonga, I had it off the clock (200+ Kph)!! That was with 13" hotwires running 50 series tyre at the front. 60's at the rear.. It would be foolish of me to say that it was a true 200+ kph, knowing how accurate these speedo's can be..

Here is a pic of the beast before she was rebuilt..

my 7600rpm was wrong, sorry, so with 22" tyres you were reving to 6700rpm 1st@2nd and 7300rpm in 3rd to achieve 200kph
and if you could theoreticly reach 6200 in top it would be just over 240 kph

My 2.78 Banjo 77 LX L31 4 Speed Hatch had a Factory Fitted A9X Radiator,A9X Thermo Fan,and A9X Overflow Plastic Bottle.
This would of helped it to Revvvv more as no Engine Fan causing drag,it was Aqarious Blue when i bought it with Black Interior,i Painted it Black. As i wanted a Black 5.0 Litre SS but couldent find one so i got it Painted Black.
When i bought it,it had 40,000KMS on it and was a 0ne owner job, with 13" Hotwires on it.
I got 14" Hotwires and Flares put on it when Blue then sent it away to get Painted Black.
In the 1990's (Car was Black)i got Bob Speed Shop in Hobart to hot it up,i spent about $4500 on the motor,i told Bob about how well it went before he worked on the Engine,i believe Bob Speed Shop still is in Hobart working but at a newer location now.
Here some pics of it and Paper Add,one is the Car yard Add from the Hobart Mercury Newspaper.

I enclose a Pic of my Mandareen Red 77 LX SS L31,4 Speed with (3.08 Ratio Diff)The red SS went awesome but nothing on the Blue later on Painted Black SS

It relates to the SL vs SS
Due to a post saying if a 5.0 Litre SL had been Built and a SL been lighter than a SS,would be Quicker than a SS.
So if there was other SS in the Freak mode like my old Blue SS was, they might be Quicker than a Factory 5.0 Litre SL with its lighter weight.
Hence the SL vs SS argument

Yeah but the original question was to do with price - not speed.

Yes i have, and a SL is worth Less than a SS

Maybe in Mechanical and Cosmetics they are not much Different the SL and SS

But the SS is Deemed a Factory Sports Car by Holden, where the SL is not deemed with a Sporty image,i am not the only one who has moved onto other items on this thread, hence the HQ with 308's and SL 308's if made been Quicker etc.
Have you read the Last few pages on this thread as well
