Call Holden Customer Care line, speak to and of he dealers and ask for the number and they will give it to you. I think its a 1300 or 1800 number.

I spoke to them about confirming my LH as a V8 option and they printed out a Genuine holden letter head with all my Torry info on it stating is was a V8 option and what not. They even signed it.

Cheers

^ ring that number and tell them you after a Letter of Authenticity, and they'll plug you through to the right area.

In two or three days, you should have your letter.

You need to have the correct VIN number (centre tag on LH/LX/UC's). Give them your return phone number, just in case there is an issue with the VIN. I've been given so many that are incorrect, or are chassis numbers, all of which cause problems.

One thing Holden will normally say is "based on the numbers you have provided". They really can't tell you much more than you will already know, but it's nice to have the letter. Unfortunately, they can't provide one for A9X's.

All the VINs for the A9X's are published in the Torana Performance Handbook anyway.

GMH records for A9X were stolen. You couldn't sue them anyway, the information they provide is based on the numbers you supply, thats it.

i rung the number on friday to get a letter of authenticity for my ss, and the guy on the line was extremely helpfull, and was stoked that ss toranas were still around. I cant wait to get the letter, straight to the poolroom ( if you know what im saying )

if you havent done it do it.

Has GMH-TORANA ever though about getting a database together of people who own a ss or slr torana and what the numbers are? It would be great to see how many are still out there, and would be a great tool if your torana was ever stolen ( kill the bastards! )
cheers julian

I'm extremely surprised they confirmed your engine block, they never used to.

I have received letter today, engine has not been comfirmed, only confirms that engine should have HT prefix, does confirm that the car is "one of our original build 1974 Holden LH Torana SLR sedans" is production was the 28.06.74. It also states that if i wish establish the original components to contact a reputable car club - any ideas who i should contact to confirm engine number as being original...

sorry for mis-quoting the young lady on the phone......

As I suspected. You could try HG350, Peter and Millissa may be able to help. Can you provide all your numbers here and a cast number on the block? All of those together can give a pretty good indication of whether it is correct or not.

Hi Blown308

I don't know whether there is the same deal in NSW, but here in Vic you can ask VicRoads, our State motor registration authority, for a 'history' of a given registration number. The fee here in Vic is $13.90.

It was the only way that I could establish the original engine number. GMH can confirm one as being correct but will not provide you with the original number if you don't know it - privacy legislation.

I was able to find out how many previous owners of my car back to 1972 when the vehicle was first registered and all registration numbers, chassis number, engine numbers and colour changes since then. They will not provide (again for privacy reasons) the names or even the postcodes of the previous owners.

I contacted holden customer service (via email) about my slr 5000 about 6 years ago, providing all numbers (including engine number) and they were able to confirm that all numbers matched, including confirmation that my engine number matched there own records as the correct one for my vehicle.

Hardly useless if the source is good. Any info on hatchbacks? My theory is that the prototypes were built in Adelaide.
