During the christmas holidays I spent a week at Cowes and while we were there we took a trip out to the Racetrack where there is a Go Kart track which is a scaled down replica of the Grand Prix Circuit.
What a blast.....
Best go kart track I've ever been on, my favourite part was coming up over Lukey Heights which is a blind crest, feeling weightless then onto the brakes to get around the hairpin. Every time I came onto the main straight I had to catch my breath - I don't think I was breathing the rest of the lap.
It was on a weekday and not many people around, so only 7 on the track in my session. My daughters and another family which included a teenage boy who looked like my main competition. By the end of lap 1 I was in the lead and I thought it was all over, then all of a sudden on about the 3rd lap this kid pops out from behind me as we came onto the straight, I hadn't even realised he was there, from there until the end it was on and the lead changed every lap, ususally at 1 of the hairpins or as we were lapping slower karts. At the finish he was just in front and he punched the air as we crossed the line seperated by about a cigarette paper. When we got out of the karts and got the printouts of the lap times I had just beaten him with fastest lap, so I was fairly happy with myself too.
Anyway, I would be interested to hear if others have enjoyed this track, or was I just having a boring holiday and thats what made it seem so good.

SOUNDS awesome!
What are the karts like?
I know at Eastern Creek karts they had at least 2 types of karts - the "normal" karts with 5Hp honda engines, and the "pro" karts with 11hp hondas.
We did a 15 minute stint on each, and the 11hp machines were AMAZING! they said a top speed of 90-95Kph which felt like 190!
I had a blast, and they even had a "fat seat" in a couple of karts for people with wide loads like me and those karts carry a couple hundred extra revs to try and level the playing field a bit!
Sounds like you had fun mick, top stuff!

I'd PITY a poor kart under me... I think i'd need the gixxerkart ( if youve ever seen that video ) to be competitive!
Cheers

Mick I know what you mean mate... I've been to the replica track a couple of times - once for a bucks night, and also with Eastside Cruisers as a club run. It is a sensational track... ditto your comment about Lukey Heights - it's kinda scary coming up and over blind.... several times I've come over the crest only to find people spun-out pointing right at me! LOL. It was total kaos... some of the best fun I've had. The karts I've had were pretty good... not the fastest I've ever been on, but certainly not bad. A very addictive track, and you can have some great duels on it

A couple of weeks ago my son was down there for a week on holiday and he and a couple of mates went to the track on the Friday.
Turns out a friend of the family was on the flag and gave them all a free go.
